Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Clipless help...

So I just switched over to a pair of eggbeater quattros and I can't clip my ****ing shoes in. I am getting really pissed at these pedels.... I use dominators. Anyone else have these pedels and any insights?

aren't the quattro's road pedals? the tread on your shoe is likely preventing you from clipping in.

I checked that, there is no overlap.

Just practice a bit against the wall. You get used to it. I don't really know of any nuances to beaters though , I just put my toe in and push down I think.

You mean you tried clipping the pedals to the shoes while the pedals weren't on the bike and the shoes weren't on your feet? Because if that goes well (no overlap as you say, evident from the fact that the tread and material under the cleat don't contact any parts of the pedal, or do just slightly), then it's your technique.. and I don't know how to council you. I recently switched from Time ATACs to Eggbeaters, and the clip-in motion required less effort, although it was strange trying to position the foot before clipping in.

You could put them on a freewheel-equipped bike to get used to them (provided you have one).

why the switch?

Aesthetics, the fact that Eggbeaters were cheap, and the reduced risk of pedal strikes. I haven't had that much of a chance to ride them yet (bloody weather), but I liked them enough to keep them. I had no problems with the Atacs on my roadie, the positive contact at the ends of the float was really nice, and the clip in/out tension was perfect for me, Eggbeaters seems to be less and I don't have any idea when I'm about to clip out, or just floating.. I suppose I'll get used to it in time. I might be selling my ATACs though, because I only have one pair of shoes and I don't mind swapping pedals.

hmmm....eggs are all i ride (and candy's). seems to go easy for me. it does sound like the bottom of the shoe is coming into contact with the pedal body and that you would need to do a little carving, but if you already tried that...
