Looks like the old one was buried and getting cluttered. Hope it's cool that I started a new one.

Any plans this weekend for a ride? It's tough for me to get out to St. Pete during the week...maybe this Friday after work if I throw the bike in the back of the truck and launch it once I get down to Central.

Since I'm still trying to get the "feel" for my fixed I was thinking of a late morning early afternoon cruise on the Friendship Bridge (http://www.friendshiptrail.org/). Maybe do some timed runs or something. I don't know. Has anyone considered a fixed only organized race on this bridge? Get some spokecards together and make it a fun meeting of fixed riders. I know a straight bridge isn't much of a fixed gear race, but it's a starting place.

If you want, every Thursday at 7 pm Chaiwheel Drive in Palm Harbor has some guys cruise around on fixed gear bikes. PM for the organiser's number if you need it.

I won't be out there this Thursday as I am heading up to Tally tomorrow, but i'm there most all the time. Also, if anyone wants to make a 4 hour trip, Critical Mass on Friday in Tallahassee and Track racing on Saturday. PM for details.

When I get back I really want to ride with someone. Lets get something going!

Edit: Also I don't know if we really need another thread. It is really easy to search for and bump. The clutter issue shouldn't matter as new posts aren't hard to find. Want me to bump it and 165 can close this one or something? Not saying that making a new one is a stupid idea, just maybe uneccesary?

I'm done driving for a while...East coast trip this past Sunday to surf and that much time in a car sucks. This weekend I want to be on my bike.

Hit me up when you get back and we'll set something up for next week. I'd love to get a weekly thing going. I know Chainwheel does their thing and I know Neptune has a weekly ride up in Tarpon. I want to get something going down this way...Clearwater South you know.

Talk about cluttered, check the Gaineville thread.

Hey, do any of you guys know if the University of Florida will drop my late fees if I thought my tuition was covered by my scholarship? I"m done being a jackass now.

I've got my own regular ride from Kenwood to the downtown Publix every night. So far, it's just me and my lady. We're willing to extend the route.

Scotty, I'd be willing to meet you halfway on the bridge. I need to try and get out of bed before 11 every day anyway.

I'm usually home from work in time for Jeopardy, so anytime after that I'm basically free to ride...ride or die. SATAN'S SPOKES!

Can't make it, but are we all going to try and meet up for a ride on Wednesday? Time? Place?

DoshKel
10-02-06, 03:53 PM
I'm down for Wed.

7 -8 pm?

Where at? Somewhere in St. Pete?

sinkFLsink
10-02-06, 04:51 PM
Wed 7-8pm works for me...earlier is fine too. Depends on how much riding we plan on doing. Lights pretty much gone by 730 or so.

I'll need to truck the bike down to St. Pete if that's where we decide to ride.

Okay, St. Pete ride, Wednesday night. 8pm, Cafe Alma for drinks followed by a yet-to-be-determined route:

Screw it...when I get down there I'm leaving my bike in the truck. I'll just drive behind you guys shouting obscenities. It would take me too long to ride from my house to downtown. I'll see you guys down there though...I'll launch the bike around the corner annd come riding up like I pedaled the whole way.

I'd rather eat the ass out of a walrus than ride with you *****es.

Either that or I have mid-terms and will have my nose (and possibly other body parts) stuck in a damn book.

Allow me to preemptively add: Shut up Robb.

I was in Tampa this past weekend, maybe 30 minutes North of the airport. Did not have a bike, but did not have time to ride anyway.

I am actually trying to convince my wife to try to get a job at USF as this Florida boy is starting to get a little tired of the Northeast. One question, are the love bugs that bad all year round and/or all over the Tampa area? Where I was staying it was ridiculous!

TheRobbStory

I just noticed the love bugs today for the first time this year. They're only bad for about a month. Anyone know that story about how love bugs are some cracked experiment gone wrong out of UF?

What does your wife do? I work at USF for the Florida Center of Instructional Technology http://fcit.usf.edu. USF is a cool place to work, as long as you can find parking. And hey, the chicks are great.

I'm gonna try and bring Morgan and Bruce maybe. They will probably be working though.

I have heard that story about UF before. The way I heard it was that someone in a lab let out the love bugs by mistake and the rest is history.

My wife is an emergency medicine doctor. She wants to continue working at a teaching hospital which limits us b/c there really are not that many programs around the country that have emergency medicine residency programs. In Florida you have USF, UF (in Jacksonville; though they are starting one in Gainesville) and Orlando Regional.

I go to an accelerated college where a semester is crammed into 4-5 weeks, so after this week I'll only have two weeks left and then I'm free. It's gonna be a long two weeks but, oh well ..

Love bugs are the devil. I just noticed them about two days ago. Last year I caught one up the nose while riding and it came out my mouth without even so much as a, "Thank you". Little insect *****.

sinkFLsink
10-03-06, 02:34 PM
From what I use to hear, the Love Bugs were a creation back in the day by UF scientist to try and control the mosquito problem...didn't really work as planned an they sort of "got away" from the lab... Here is what they really are according to Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_bug Check out the TRIVA section for the UF buster.

This ride tomorrow is mandatory no helmet! I only say that because I don't have one right now and the odds of an accident should be equally spread out among us.

Tonight at Chainwheel drive 7 pm. Be there or be square.

Basically, my blind ass missed a street sign, ignored the fact that Todd was behind me, and cut right across his direction of travel. I probably also yelled 'LEFT!' and turned right. I'm ********. We knew this.

Pretty fun night battling the wind. Rode around downtown, the pier, beach drive, on out to Snell Isle and back to downtown.

After Todd left, I rode over to the Indy for a few more pints, and then back to Cafe Alma for even more pints. By the time I got back to Cafe Alma, anyone who rides in St Pete was there. I ducked out around 1am.

Let's do it again next wednesday, but maybe around 9 or 10.

Hey Dosh, does the Chainwheel gimmick require helmets and the like? I'm thinking about driving up if I can get out of work in time.

10-05-06, 02:47 PM
What!?! Everyone showed up after I left? I may need to take next Thursday off so we can do it right on Wednesday night. I might be up for the Chainwheel gimmick. Rob, we could always be the two jacka$$ guys that refuse to obey the rules and ride behind the pack...lol.

Someone post on here if they're going for sure.

Oh god... thats ****ing hilarious. At least now we know that once you call out a direction, it will be the opposite one.

Ok here is the deal with tonight. Plans changed. We will be riding at 8:30 because Morgan's 91 year old grandpa is having his birthday dinner. Can anyone meet me at Chainwheel at 8, and then we can ride down to where Morgan wants to meet? And helmets and **** aren't a rule. You can bring a keg on the back of a trailer and do kegstands while smoking a cigarette all night for all we care.

I'll get on AIM right now (Om bU sId is my username) and if anyone catches this, hit me up on there.

A ride on Sunday would be ****ing great. Lets do it. I can def. make it then.

Someone come tonight... it will be fun. We can go play pool and get drunk afterwards or some ****.

Dosh said he's in for Sunday and might bring a few extra peeps. This is turning into a MINI-CRITICAL on the trail. LOL. Start thinking of a start time for Sunday and we'll all meet up at Taylor Park (minutes from my house) and jump on the trail. The park will have plenty of parking and is a launch spot for a lot of roadies.

DoshKel
10-05-06, 04:33 PM
Alright true. Damn... I should get some guys in Tallahassee to help me build that. It would be ultimate for long rides... until we are all wasted and then die from trying to play footdown mid-ride.

And the ****ing steering wheel is the best!

Hope to see you there man.

Edit: And yea... totally down for Sunday. I'll even bring some Blue Moon for after the ride.

sinkFLsink
10-05-06, 04:56 PM
Should be a fun ride.

Alright, so I need to get rid of this stuff...any local guys/gals that would be interested, let me know. MKS L Mini Clips (no straps needed). MKS LL Toe Clips. MKS Leather Straps. The mini clips are brand new, never used. The toe clips and straps were put on and used once. $25 takes it all.

Hate to be a bother....but I seriously wonder why these threads can't be posted in the regionals forum, where they belong?

I just don't get it. Is it laziness, or something else?

It doesn't make sense that some threads are moved or locked, and others turn into 10,000 page insular chat-fests. Mods and administrators, can we rectify this?

DoshKel

I'm cool with it being moved. It just hasn't so no reason in not posting in it until it does get moved.

I'm cool with that. You're alright with me DoshKel, and I'm originally a Florida boy...but these double standards are killing me. Now someone's gone and started a Long Island thread. Soon we will all be in our own private universe. I will, at that point, create a thread for all those who ride in the fictional land of Serendip.

I'd ride in Serendip but only if I can ride naked with bagels duct-taped to my nipples ...

Move it to Regional, not a big deal to me either, although I might forget to look for it now and then.

sinkFLsink
10-06-06, 06:24 PM
Yeah...I don't mind it being moved there and I guess I apologize for starting this thread here. My question is this: Is there a regional fixed gear thread? Because that would be why this is here. It speaks to the fixed gear riders in this area. I think arguments on message boards are pointless, so I'm fine with this thread being moved. With that said...is it really bothering you that much to see a thread talking about an area you're not in? Seriously, I don't mind where this thread is moved to, but lets not harp on the fact that it's here because it speaks to the fixed gear riders.

:D

I'm with Zen on this one. I would want to be naked with cake spread all over me (just to be safe... y'know) before heading to the magical land of Serendip. I would also want to have an antenna on my head so I can contact the aliens.

let's stay on topic, fellas. I don't want to see this thread getting locked.

So Sunday at Sink's house? Can we all agree on a time? I'll bring the cakes, pies and golden thighs.

sinkFLsink
10-07-06, 10:54 AM
Skip the cake and pies and double down on the female thighs.

Depending on the cars coming it might be better to meet up at Taylor Park. I can fit about 4 cars at my place, but there is unlimited parking at Taylor Park. Meet Time: 330 Leave Park Time: 400 That should allow plenty of time to ride and explore side trails/streets and stuff if the group wants. I'm open to an earlier start time too.

Let's see how this turns out is tomorrow. If we can get a good group together I'll do a little bbq at my place for the next time. Do a little ride then come back and have some eats and drinks.

DoshKel
10-07-06, 12:18 PM
I think Taylor Park would be the best idea. Since it is pretty easy to find and has a big ass parking lot.

3:30 is a good time as well. A real good time. If we leave at 4, we would be riding around the time it gets a little cooler, so on the way back it is gonna be perfect.

I went for a ride last night with Morgan down to the St. Pete campus and asked him if he wanted to come, he said maybe, so i'm gonna go up to the shop today and buy a new tire,a replacement right two clip and see if he is up for it. Is everyone on here coming? It would be really nice if we got something like 5 or 6 riders out tomorrow. Then, like Todd said, we can hang out the next time and drink beer, have golden thighs and do all other sorts of manly stuff... or something like that.

Can't ****ing wait.
