Mountain Biking - Noob bar recommendations
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I've been lurking for a while and I am looking to replace the bars on my 04 Tass.
I bought the bike used about a month ago. The bike is in great shape, it was barely used but everything is still stock besides the new pedals I just got.
I'm still learning but I do some single track here in the NE. Nothing crazy but I don't want to outgrow my upgrades too quickly.
Anyway, I saw some Raceface Diabolus O/S for really cheap. Thoughts?
If I go with the oversized bars, what are some good stem options? How about new grips? I like the look and reviews of the Oury Lock-ons but will they fit oversized bars?
Sorry for the questions. TIA

I like the TruVativ bars that came on my Kona, and they're pretty cheap.
RaceFace is also good stuff though.
swapping bars and stems should be primarily because of comfort, to adjust cockpit height or length. if you are sitting good on your bike with your current stem and bars, and if you still do want to 'upgrade' then make sure your new bar/stem is identical to the ones you are swapping, otherwise you change your sitting position.
though it is also good to experiment i think. a shorter stem and riser bar would help you lift the front wheel easier, at the expense of having to use more body english during hard climbs..
race face is good stuff generally.

here are some that dont cost to much
or for a little more
Thanks for the responses. I think I know what I'm going to do.
Last question, will all my components still work on the oversized bars (i.e. shifter and brake levers)? I'm pretty sure my stock setup is the 25.4mm size.
Same with the grips, are there different size grips for the 31.8? I like the Oury's. Will they fit an O/S bar?
Just want to make sure everything will fit before I order it.
The oversized part is primarily just the part where the stem clamps to the bar. The grip area is the same size.
