Mountain Biking - I think I screwed up by buying a Mountain Bike

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

A few weeks ago I found what I thought to be a good deal on a Habanero titanium MTB. I don't know a lot about mountain bikes but thought for $700 I was getting a nice bike. The bike has a full Shimano Deore LX group, with LX hubs laced to Mavic rims. The fork was a cheap one, a steel Surley fixed fork. I thought I was going to ride it and after a week or so decided that the bike was a smidge too big and that I should have put the money toward different things (Cross tires, hitch rack, etc.) I turned around and tried selling the bike on ebay, but have not had any takers. The first auction someone actually won for $700, but they lived in South Korea and have refused to pay. I relisted the bike for $625 and figured I would bite the bullet and lose a little money. No one bid. No one. I have just relisted the bike for $550. If it sells for this amount I will take a minimum of a $150 loss. I have tried to get the original bidder to pay, and have since filed an unpaid item claim. Again, as a roadie I thought this would be a good bike. Am I wrong? The pictures are below, tell me what you think. Please! This thing is killing me! I just paid for an upgraded membership so I will also be listing this in thr for sale forum as soon as I get me red star :) I should have upgraded earlier anyway. Let me know what you think.

I guess what I am asking is what do you think this bike is worth? Thanks

Ti frame?

Looks like anodized aluminum to me....

It's Ti.

Mark Hickey has always done a great job importing relatively inexpensive Ti frames from China.

Wouldnt a Ti fram have lots of flex? Sorry for my ignorance here, but I'm not too familiar with Ti as a frame material, but I have used Ti parts before.

Assuming that is an Aluminum frame I would price that bike around $350-400, if even that. I would seriously try to get my money back if I were you. Just look at other respectable Mountain Bikes in the $700 range and you will see how lacking that bike is. Even if the frame is Titanium there's no way in hell I'd pay $700 for it.

Considering the bare frame retailed for $599, I think $700 is a fair deal. It's a bit outdated, and without a suspension fork it'll be really hard to sell, but it's a good solid bike.

Oh, well if that's the case it's not so bad I guess.

Why not try to return it or exchange it?
