Its been a fixture for years and years. I've heard good and bad about it. If it werent for the Seagul Century being on the same weekend (every year without fail), i would go.

I think I'm going to head up from Philly, but I'm also curious if it's going to be more like a giant garage sale or like a bunch of brand new stuff.

Well, I've been a couple times and might go again this weekend if the weather looks good. It is a mix of vendors selling new stuff (some shops, a lot of clothing, shoes, tires) and people selling NOS/used bikes, frames and parts. I don't usually buy much, but still enjoy going. It is also an excuse to throw my bike in the car and take a ride around Bucks or Hunterdon Co. roads, which are nicer than where I live.

Does anyone know of any good rides in the Trexlertown or nearby areas?

You can pick up Bike Route L right near the velodrome.

ftp://ftp.dot.state.pa.us/public/pdf/bikes/state_mapL.pdf

Click on map 7 to see where you can catch the route. If you head south about 15 miles, I know the roads are pretty nice but that's as far north as I've ridden.

I went to one of the swap meets last year and got some very nice deals on a few jerseys. It was fun seeing all the bikes and gear there too.

The Berks County Bike Club just had their annual Sho-Fly Century two weeks ago and it started at the Velodrome so you could try to get in contact with them and see if you could get a cue sheet for one of their rides. http://www.berksbicycle.com/

Check Routeslip - an interesting one to Hawk Mountain, by the look of it

A bro-in-law of mine lived in that area and raced out there for a few years - I've put an email out to him to see if he has any info and will post what I hear.

The swap meet is Oct 7th, right? That is what their official web site says, but this is at least the second person recently who has said something to me about it being this weekend.

Yeah, I was under the impression that it was the 1st., not the 7th., so thanks for the heads-up. And thanks to everyone for ride tips. That Hawk Mountain ride looks very appealing. Last year I did about 50 miles around Hunterdon Co. (NJ) starting in Lambertville and heading east.

Here's the website www.thevelodrome.com It is in fact the 7th of October.

Also if you ride at the track it will be closed after the swap meet for an indefinite amount of time for resurfacing.

Also if you're in NY area NYCbikes is having a warehouse sale and a ride sponsored by The Onion news this Saturday.

So did anyone else go to the meet? I got there around 10 am and things were hopping - had to park quite far from the Velodrome. Wasn't really looking for much in particular and wound up with a pair of $10 arm warmers. By 1 pm I had decided it had warmed up enough to take a ride and did the Trexlertown-Hawk Mountain loop from RouteSlip.com that was posted above.

Quite a nice ride, and the 2 mile climb up Hawk Mtn. is a real workout. Actually, it was pretty chilly decending after stoping at the top for a Cliff bar - 37 mph for over 2 miles! Too bad so many of the roads are chipseal. RouteMap is a pretty good idea, but there are still some issues that need to be worked out. Foremost is the ability to print out maps of the correct scale which have legible labels on the roads. I managed to print out the route using 4 sheets, but had to use a highlighter to indicate the route and label the road names with a pen. I was semi-lost a couple times, but locals set me straight. Saw a large group of roadies taking a break at the cafe on Hawk Mtn. Road....

Not only can you find great deals it is a wonderful way to network with cyclists of the same vein.
Looking forward to seeing alot of old familiar faces as 2006 was a road racing year for me which really
was not all it was cracked up to be. That's what I get for being 'seduced' by a pretty face as the captain
of a local professional womens team literaly begged me to join up with them. www.hubracing.com
