Just moved to Tucson AZ

I moved about 4 weeks ago and have been doing a lot of riding with a roadbike cycle club so we ride a what appears fairly clean roads. I have been using Big Apple tires (65 PSI) but I have gotten so far 3 flats (in my rear tire ) due to what appears to be very small needle like thorns so I am a bit dissapointed in the BAs with Kevlar protection. I temporarily remounted the Marathon Plus on the rear wheel. I would prefer the BA instead.
I was thinking of using slime tire liners with my BAs? Will they help prevent flats from these thorns and what would they do the plush ride the BAs have?
