Hi all, my wife and I plan to tour Italy and Greece next spring and are thinking of cycling the ancient roman road called the Appian way. First roman road, from rome to brindisi.
I was wondering if anyone has cycled along this road and if they would like to share any tips (condition of road etc...)

I rode along bits and pieces of the Appian Way last year, but not by design. In some places it is still old cobblestones, as in Rome and where it goes through Fondi (a great little city). If I remember correctly, there are modern highways where it once ran. Also (if I remember right again) I think that made up a part of a very nice route we rode between Matera and Alberobello. All in all, I think that riding the route of the Appian Way would be a great tour.
