View Full Version : My "sick day"
Causes of my "illness":
Gray rainy weather
Working too much
Living too little
On rare sunny days, looking out the windows at work and dreaming of a ride
Constantly damp bike shorts
What I did on my "sick" day:
Took a 22 mile road ride in the farmlands
Rode about 10 miles on trails through the woods
Overdosed on sunshine
Got a little of my tan back, along with plenty of vitamin :-D
Bought 8 pounds of tomatoes from a farmer
Made fresh tomato sauce to freeze and last the first month of winter
Rode 6 miles in the city to eat at a favorite restaurant and watch my best friend bowl
Froze my butt off riding home in the late night
How guilty I felt about taking a phony sick day:
Not very
Not for long

Only fair - after all, if you commute, you probably are almost never sick. So, when all the others take sick days as sick days - you should be able to take a mental health day.
After all, don't they think we are crazy... ?

At my current job, I've called in sick 4 days in 3 years. Yet the obese car dependent folk max out their sick day allowance. At a friend's company its all PTO- paid time off. The healthy people get extra vacation and the sickly car drivers have to dip into vacation time to nurse their colds and strained ankles and backs. That makes better sense than forcing employees to be deceptive in order to obtain justice doesn't it?

I used to work for a company where that was how vacation/sick time worked. You "earned" so many days for each hour you worked. Then you could use it for personal time, sick time, vacation time or even cash some of it in at the end of the year for money. Another thing that was neat was you could donate time to another employee if they needed it for personal reasons. We had one guy whose wife was killed in a car accident and a bunch of us donated enough time he was able to take 3 months off with pay and take care of his kids and personal business.

My boss called in "well" yesterday. I thought that was pretty good.

It can vary. At my last job, my sick days were almost always maxed out and usually because of mental health days. I hated that job. In this job, in a year and a half, I haven't taken one.
