Xo1 Fork upgrade

Yep, I was thinking about upgrading forks on my X01 Ive preety much done everything else to the bike, so why not fork? I was looking at the ALPHA Q, EASTON EC 90, and the RITCHEY cross fork, I was wondering if anywone has had any experiance with these forks on the bikes, I am worried about getting brake chatter if i upgrade forks though, your opinions please.

I think you first ought to check the axel to crown length of the forks. For some reason I think the X0-1 has a pretty long fork, longer than 405mm. A shorter fork might affect your geometry?

I have an Alph Q CX on my Steelman and love it. The ride is smooth (all the little bumps are muted out) and the steering is great. I had to toe my brakes in more because the carbon fork flexed less that my steel fork which caused terrible brake chatter, once I adjusted the brakes the problem went away.

I found the 2002 xo1 specs and it said that the fork axle to crown measurement was 403mm. I also emailed trek asking about the axle to crown measurement on the 2007 xo2 and they replied that it was 405mm.

I wonder why Trek makes the forks that long??? It appears that most cyclocross forks measure 395mm.

What about the Reynolds Ouzo (http://cyclocrossworld.stores.yahoo.net/reouprocrfo.html) Fork? These forks are very light, a good bang for the buck, and solid as as all.

I was considering a Poprad, but wanted to change the fork which is the same (I think) as the trek. Unfortunately, couldn't find any cx forks that were that long and was worried about geometry changes. I'm also wondering if this is a rational concern or not over a cm or so of axel to crown length.

I was wondering the same thing, especially since I'm anxiously awaiting the new Trek XO2. Though I may never need to change the fork it would be nice to have that option.

My gut feeling is that the 10mm difference would be significant. A couple weeks ago I was at a cross race and saw a couple of XO1's with non-stock forks.

I know nothing about this stuff, but I wonder if it would be possible to put a spacer below the crown race on a shorter fork???

I saw an XO1 yesterday with a Winwood carbon fork. I didn't get a chance to talk to the owner about the details.

Well I guess the Xo1 guys could steal the Xo2 guys bontrager sattilite forks while there not looking >.<

If you want my opinion it's that you can't improve the fork if you're racing cross. If you're riding for recreational purposes a carbon fork will improve the smooth riding of the bike.

But if that's worth about $650 after all the shouting is done is purely up to you.

Not to mention what happens if you snap the carbon steerer tube.......
