I will be visiting Mississippi next April and would like to do some riding along the coastline. How is the shoreline recovery going-is Hwy 90 rideable (I'm assuming the bridges will be down for awhile). Any information is appreciated.

Let me know how your ride goes. I'm from Gulfport, but haven't been there in several years. Heard they have most of the casinos open again, so I bet the roads there are clear. Money talks...

I was in Gulfport in Feb. They had at least 2 lanes open on Hwy 90. Nearer to Biloxi they had more work done. Everything was still pretty messed up. Hopefully it is better now.

Pascagoula here, east of Biloxi. All of US 90 is open now. There were only two bridges on 90 that were destroyed, Bay St. Louis and Biloxi/Ocean Springs. The Bay St. Louis bridge might have 2 lanes open by then and if they don't they have a temp ferry up and running you could cross on. There is no way on this earth that the Biloxi/O.S. bridge will be in any type of operation. As far as road condition I would ride 90 in Biloxi and Gulfport now. The further west you go, the worse the roads are going to be. To see the coast east of Biloxi (O.S. and Pascagoula) you will actually not be on 90, but south of it and it will be primarily residential - its about a 20 mile ride from the beach in Goula to the O.S. side of the Biloxi/O.S. bridge one way. There's a local club that rides often, allthough for traffic reasons they ride mainly north of I10 on country roads www.gulfcoastbicycleclub.com check them out there. If you ride you'll still see lots of vacant lots where buildings were, but you'll also see lots of construction. Always looking for a ride so PM when you're down here if you want to ride or just want some local knowledge tips.

No sweat. Like I said, let me know if I can help or provide any info. As was said all of the casinos are back up and running - at least in some form - and the re-building continues so most of the building damage will be pretty much gone by then, but you'll still be able to see what happened. The weather should be nice then, windy possibly, but nice.
Happy New Year
