When I was in jail a few years ago (90 days--nothing major), I asked 3 different lawyers why the guards were so abusive and seemingly angry all the time. They all told me that they were the ones that were not fit to be out in the public, so they ended up in the jail (county).

Hey TC, not to hijack the thread, but WTF is up with your Steelers?
Only week 3, and it looks like they might miss the playoffs!

Sad, sad, sad, sad. Yes, but remember they were by the skin of their teeth last year, but they won their last 7 games, so, maybe a disappointing start, but they're always good for giving me a heart attack!!

I'm a Red Sox fan.

So, did she concede the point, or just grunt and continue believing what she wanted to?

Well, we all jumped on her and she just turned red and sat back, we then continued on with the meeting.

Update on this thread... On my ride home yesterday I came across our buddy again !

It was on a different road but on the same path that I take when I go home the way I did the day he accosted me.

I waved at him but I don't know if I noticed.. .He did pass me in my lane on a left turn at a major intersection.... < Thanks >

Me: Sorry.
Hey man, I'm on your side, I wouldn't argue either.

But let's face it, he was totally ignorant, should NEVER have passed you so closely, 24 inches is not a bike lane...

...and I bet the truth is, you're not sorry!

Here is an interesting volley of letters to the editor fueled by the inapproprate marks from a retired law enforcement officer. (DPS DUI patrol). No need to discuss or prove wrong any of the comments made, most of the followup letters do already (it reads like a typical A&S thread actually). Most of the early letters back were in defense of cyclists, but later on some supporters of McCarthy chime in.

You know the biggest issue from that letter... besides the attitude of the officers, is the 85 percentile rule... As long as "Detroit" keeps making higher performance vehicles, that rule will keep pushing up the speed limits... and as long as the roads themselves are not changed, then sightlines and stopping distances are an ever increasing problem. Where does that madness stop?

In general, one area where bicycling advocacy lags behind is working with law enforcement. Admittedly, that's probably the toughest area to get the foot in the door. Did the local advocacy organizations contact the DPS and express the concern that there might be other officers with similar attitudes as the one in question?

It is not always so easy to catch a person abusing power unless they were wired with tape recorders for the length of their shift. .
actually it would be very easy plenty of times. like for instance getting pulled over and beaten for no reason.there could be a video taken(with audio) from an (on but unmanned) video camera, but it wouldnt be allowed as evidence. retarted?? yes. allowing bad cops to go free and commit more crimes. retarted also..

I'm not so sure about that. Of course it depends on where you are, but generally IIRC as long as you were in public, there is no rule against having a video recorder running and having the tape be evidence. Consider the infamous Rodney King case for a dramatic example.

im sorry i forgot to say, " a video camera in my car as i get beaten"

p.s. cops have video in their car and they can use it to prosecute. civilians cant.
next time you're pulled over ask the cop if you can video tape your interaction. all i want is video proof to ensure justice, same reason cops have video in-car
