Does anyone have any tips for reducing appetites during the winter months? My problem is that I remain as ravenous as I do during the Spring and Summer, and unfortunately, I'm not as active when it's less than 40 degrees F outside. Intuitively, it would seem reasonable that my appetite would be reduced after several days of lessened activity, but this never seems to happen for me.

I have the same problem and I'm a die hard between meal snacker. Changing what I snack on has helped a lot. Think fruit, veggies, cotage cheese and all that stuff you really don't want to eat.

Try increasing the amount of fiber and lean protein (i.e. chicken breasts) in your diet. Eat lots of veggies, and fruit, and see how that works to control your appetite. It usually takes my body several days for a week to shift from cycling mode to normal mode. The only option, I think, is to just not stop cycling.

Unfortunately, I already eat tons of fiber and lean meats, and drink lots of water. My tolerance for cycling in the cold decreases every year, so I wind up using a trainer or going to the gym, neither of which is very satisfactory. Any other ideas?

Usually if you can make it about two weeks of still healthy but a little less volume, your stomach will shrink a bit and you won't be as hungry.

Also, Eat several times per day. Yesterday, at work, I ate all day long, every 2 hours, it looks like Im a pig but I use fitday and I took in a total of 1000 calories and just 20 grams of fat and Im tellin ya, I ate all day. Honey combs for breakfast, nutrigrain bar at 9, ham sammich at 11, apple at 12, bannana at 12:30, another ham sammich (in wheat both times) at 1. Then I got home and had supper. My total intake was 1500 calories and 30 grams of fat.

In the flip side, a buddy here at work ate a Mcdonalds bacon egg and cheese for breakfast, 500 cals and 24 grams of fat. Lunch, Mcdonalds double cheesbuger and large FF and large coke, 1800 cals and 85 grams of fat and then for supper he ate mexican. Sheesh. He had to have had 5000 calories and over 125 grams of fat. Keep doing what you are doing, at least you are conscious enough to think about what you are eating.

Good Luck.

I eat some fruit before every meal, and the best thing that I did was just stop eating once I was no longer hungry. There is no reason to keep gorging yourself once you're "full" nor any reason to have to finish your plate

Yah i find this helps me alot. Keep the meals small but have them often. I have the problem of not being hungry on the days i do any form of exercise, but on my days off im allways starving no matter what i eat. If i do eat alot its all the good stuff so at least i feel energized and refreshed for when i go out again.

Lift weights as an alternative to riding. It can be done indoors, it will raise your metabolic rate so you
can continue to eat, and you'll gain some muscle.
