Mountain Biking - Specialized P series.

Thanks for the replys to my last post, and Im sorry for the repetitive questions.

After looking at the parts for the bighit on the specialized webpage I saw the P series bikes which I had totally forgotten about.

Now I could get a p1 or a p2 for 400-700 dollors and put a nice fork on it like a dirtjumper 3 which beats the crap out of the exr that comes with it. I could do all this at a fraction of the cost of a bighit.

My question is, how big could I go with a p series bike. I think that for my skill level I cant really justify getting a bighit as they are meant for BIG drops. Is the p3 as strong as a bighit just without rear suspension?

Remember, Im looking to do lots of hucking/wheelie dropping, and maybe get into dirtjumping sooner or later. I know the p3 is a jumping bike but is it a good freerider as well. Would having a p series compliment my enduro in a sense that it will satisfy my freeride desire? I basically want the bike for messing around with and finding stuff to huck myself off.

One of the trials guys on the Drop-In series built up a P3 as a trials/urban bike...looked pretty sweet. If he thought enough of it to ride one - then you might be hard pressed to break one...

Simple...here is my explanation of that bike

tough, fun and good warranty. Sometimes they are even sexy. The p3 is a truly burly bike and the geometry is great for drops, trials, djing and just about anything you can throw at it. It is very similar to my bike in geometry and strenght and I would no issues buying one.

Dump the exr (I have this fork is blows) and put on a dj3...signifigant upgrade for very little cost

I think I might just do this because it wont break my bank.

But my real question that I didnt emphasize enough in my origingal post is......How much confidence can I have in this bike not breaking or cracking. I would have no problem using my enduro for this except for the voice in my mind that tells me its gonna break sooner or later.

I NEED confidence. Can I put all my trust into this bike?

Its burly with a wicked warranty...it won't break and even if it does specialized will be good to you...it is stronger and more built for drops than your enduro :)

Anyone else have any input on the p2? Im still getting myself stuck between the bighit and the p2.

If your not too good at freeriding stuff yet, the bighit will save you if you make a mistake with all the suspension. The p2 is a great bike for the money and I myself might get one. I think you should get the bighit (my bighit) lol...:D

I still have yet to talk to the guys at the shop to see what kind of deal they can work for a bighit or a p2.

Im curious if they have any 2002 bighits laying around. I wonder what kind of price they put on those trying to get rid of them since they were 2700 last year. I would love a bighit, but its just so much money for me right now.

Rollback prices don't always save too much. Especially since the bike didn't change much. You may save some though :)

Will the p2 hold up even if I biff it or land wrong? How much abuse could it take till it gives in? In other words, is my skill level not good enough to freeride on a p2? Like I said before, I can wheelie drop about 4.5 feet to....pretty flat and land rear wheel first almost every time. Not once did I do a nose dive.....but then again the land was onto a beach which is pretty soft.

you'll be fine...things break no matter what you buy. In the price range you mentioned it is great. Stop worrying :D

I'm a clydesdale and I had a 2000 model P.3 that I built up. The P series from Specialized is HOT! I love em. I might break down and buy a P.1. I rode a guy's around the parking lot and started to MISS my P.3.

This bike is as burly as you can get w/o going to a custom built bike. It will inspire confidence and should handle all you can throw at it.

My suggestion is to upgrade the fork. However, I would spend a bit more and get either the DJ1 or DJ2, but GET THE 20mm THRU AXLE! You won't be sorry, especially if you're going to be doing drops and some jumping! The 20mm will make the front end so stiff, you'll get the confidence you're looking for!
