Charges brought against driver in Albany, NY cyclist death

Guess it's a good thing I voted for this DA, he's pressing charges of criminally negligent homicide, vehicular manslaughter and operating a motor vehicle impaired by drugs. Now let's see if the jury makes it stick.

Why is this even going to trial? Why is she fighting it? Her attorney should have taken what ever deal the DA offered. Now when she is found guilty her punishment will be worse then what it would have been. She is ****ing coward for not owning up to what she did. Yeah she made a terrible mistake but she should own up to it & accept what ever consequinces come with it. IT would be the honorable & right thing to do. What has happened to people these days? No one wants to own up to any mistake they make.

A cyclist is dead because of her stupid decision & this ****ing ***** is running around free until Nov. At which time she will remain free until her punishment is handed down to her.

She and her attorney are probably hoping for a jury who are going to be biased towards the motorist because they drive cars.

I wouldn't say biased because they drive cars. I think the attorney thinks that they can frame it such that the jury thinks "omg that could have been ME hitting the guy! Let's let her off easy."

Either that or Soares wasn't giving **** for a deal and wanted to make an example of her. Entirely possible. This is the 'maverick' DA candidate who was booted off the Dem ballot and got elected anyway because he actually had a reasonable platform.

Depending on my schedule I may try to stop in and watch some of the trial.
