General Cycling Discussion - New Cycling Movie (getting closer to 10 total)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
In response to the thread about American Flyers, Breaking Away and Quicksilver...

We've got a new one. Should be out on DVD in a few months.
Looks very cool. I've seen it thanks to a buddy of mine who worked on it. Its kind of like Hoop Dreams on bikes. It follows the NetZero team through the 2001 season and takes you for the ride.

Cool! It looks interesting.
Does anyone know if there are any movies about biking that aren't about pro racing? I would think there could be some great movies made about, say, touring in foreign countries or the Bicycle Corps.......

And another (sorry, Inkwolf, it's about racing):
The Tour Baby! (http://www.thetourbaby.com)
The Tour Baby! chronicles Scott Coady's amazing journey following the entire 2000 Tour de France. Watch as Scott embarks on an adventure of a lifetime armed only with a Sony digital camera, his passion for cycling, and a beat up Avis rental van he called home for a month.

Ah, well, maybe it's better that way. I'm sitting here trying to think of a good plot for a bicycle touring movie, and they're all action/adventure scenarios that would make touring seem dangerous. :p

Well, I think somebody could make a really good documentary or movie out of a travelogue. Maybe something along the lines of John Steinbecks (I think) Travels w/Charlie, Charles Kuralt's "On The Road" TV shows, or Ted Conover's Rolling Nowhere. America, Europe, where ever. 'Course those wind up being less about bikes than the people and the places. But a bike is the perfect vehicle for that, because you're closer to both.
anyone else go to the screening of the Hard Road in LA yesterday? I guess it was a one time thing. Very cool.
Everyone buy this when it comes out!

Anyone seen Beijing Bicycle? Happened to notice it on Ebay just now, and it looks like it might be good.

I havn't seen it personally but it's been recommended to me as a good movie if you like artsy independent films. I was thinking about getting it myself.

Beijing Bicycle was on HBO on Wednesday (4-2-03). I missed the first half hour of the movie, but I liked what I saw. I love foreign movies.
I am watching Beijing Bicycle tonight- I just stumbled across it right at the beginning of the movie. It's pretty good. I have to say, the guy who had the stolen bike is a real dog- for anyone that saw it, did the boy steal the money from his dad to buy the stolen bike? I kinda missed that one since it was subtitled and all.

Whoops, scratch that! I got the answer to my question-
Anyone looking for a good movie ought to see Beijing Bicycle- it's a really good movie. Lots of tension, some humor, a little romance for da ladies ;)

He's editing the footage at the moment. I'm trying to get funding to have him travel with us on the Perth to Hobart (4200 km across Australia) trip later this year. We'll certainly be putting a doco together about that one if it comes off.
Check it!

They're available. I'm excited.
LA, have you order the Hard Road yet? Im tempted to go ahead and order it. It looks great, nothing like seeing the behind the scenes on how racing really works. Having OLN and watching stages is one thing, but hearing the interaction of teams and the such - wow!
Yeah. Mine is on the way. I've seen a screeening, and its great.
Great!
I'm gonna order this DVD when I get back from vacation!
Thanks for the update!
