Can anyone tell me how to go about removing these? I have gone to Park Tool website and they show how to remove shifter itself, but I need a bit more direction. Like how to loosen the cable itself in order to access the nut

Front/Rear Derailleur.
That's true but too cryptic to be helpful.
To the OP; you have to loosen the cable fixing bolts at both derailleurs to allow the cables enough slack. Then remove the holding bolts for the shift levers and pull them off the bases. Finally, you will see a hex bolt (6 mm, IIRC) inside the base. The fixing bolts turn counterclockwise to loosen and allow you to remove the bases.
