I've read the descriptions but still don't really get it.
The mid cage is good for what, other than lighter weight? Better shifting? Many moons ago I had a short cage XT derailleur and the shifting was great but I could not go big-big because the chain would be too short. However, that was fine since crossing over that much is a little too much.
