just wondering if it would be safe to sand down the fork drops so they would fit my axel. my front wheel is all bent up and i found a good wheel and switched my tire before checking if it fit.

i didn't pay anything for the wheel and my friend threw away my bent wheel so now i can't switch the core nuts.
i haven't tried forcing it on.

Umm...front wheel spacing should be 100mm. If it's not, your hub's probably put together with the wrong hardware.
I think he's trying to fit a 14mm axle into 3/8 dropouts. This was covered here. (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=222046)
