BMX - Noob need some advice

I'm new to the site and was looking for some advice. I am looking for some advice as to what kind of bike to get. I am looking for something i can ride around town since my license recently got suspended. I want something comfortable to ride and also good to try tricks on. As far as price i want something around $200 give or take. Can you guys give me some advice as to what kind of bike would be best for me? I'm 5'4" 170lbs if that helps any. Looking forward to buying this bmx bike this weekend and feeling somewhat like a kid again. Thanks in advance

I have not checked out my local shop yet...planing to go this weekend at the latest...I want to have an idea before i go there pictures would help

This is true most of the time, but lots of local bike shops give free maintenance(sp?) for life, like free truing wheels, re-adjusting brakes and stuff like that...

Check into that too.

if you need it cuz you dont have a car i'd recomend a mt. bike. you'll be much happier if its cuz you need somthing to cruise around on.

I actually went to a local bike shop today, well it was the only one open at the time. This was before i read this last msg by mude. After looking at some bikes i have also decided that a mt. bike would best fit my needs at the moment...That being said..thanks for all the info will post in mt. bike forum and see what i can come up with. MTB's suck for getting around town. Your hands go numb from leaning on them more than an hour. A MTB with a riser bar maybe? Single speed BMX is slow unless you're planning to pedal full bore all the time too. I would not go BMX for transportation, just my personal opinion. Something comfortable with at least 3 speeds would be more like it. A 24 inch cruiser with a nexus rear hub would rock!,,,,,BD

A mid priced hardtail mtn bike would be just fine for getting around on.

I'm positive i've built more bikes/built more wheels then you ever will, but sometimes it's still nice to be able to stop into a shop and get it checked over and everything re-adjusted without having to kill time doing it yourself.

I always get my brakes done at a bike shop, i hate doing them myself but i can sure as hell do them if i had too.

I acctually enjoy working on my bike. I do everything myself, because I like having it set up the way I want it. I don't really like it when other people work on my bike.

Ain't that the truth!! Most of all brakes. I cannot stand someone elses perception of
how much lever play is normal. Even if someone else does them, I still have to tighten
the cables just a bit more, lol.,,,,BD

Ha, well my brakes get down how i want them too, because i like them really tight and close to the rim, so usually the guy at the shop will think hes done, and end up having to fix them another 3 times before i like them, ahaha.
