General Cycling Discussion - Girls on bikes

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I don't know what it is about Colorado Springs, but
I notice a huge lack of female bicyclists here. About 90% of the
riders are Men, usually 30 something (and older) guys.
I see lots and lots of women runners here...running here, running there
running everywhere...jiggling and bouncing...boing, boing, floppsy, jiggely
bouncy, bouncy, boobies and buns :)
Why don't they ride bikes ?? I think it would be better than all that pounding
on their joints and other stuff. And I have NEVER EVER EVER seen a female bike
mechanic EVER...whats up with that ???

I will not be able to sleep until this occures.
Actually one of my most trusted bike mechanics is a female, and she actually works at rei:)...she and the other tech both kick @$$.
I've met female mechs in Vancouver. At two of the local bike co-ops.

Oh man !! whewww !! Thank gawd...Now my mind is once more
at peace...I new one existed somewhere..
Of course this is Colorado Springs after all not Boulder. I'll bet there
are a few up there too, but I am not worthy to live there, I eat lots of beacon.

Ya but thats portland...its not like colorado springs.
People are known to throw bottles at you on your bike here, then
write nasty editorials to the local paper about the terrible bicycle riders.

Yes, but we're still in the minority. I've always wondered why that is. We're practically made for riding a bike. Our strongest muscles are concentrated in locations that do a cyclist the most good.
When I did the 2 bike counts in August, about 20% of the cyclists at the inner SE intersection were women and 5% at the outer SE intersection. There should have been more, dang it.

Colorado is the bike friendliest place I've ever lived. And I've seen women mechs here in Denver (not too far from the Springs, and they eat beacons here too).
Maybe you should start doing triathlons?

Maybe there would be more female cyclists everywhere if things were more available. Walk into your LBS or even department store and compare the amount of clothing and other accessories designed for men, then compare it with the range designed for women. Less range also means less choice and most of the time, more expense.
First you start riding. Then you want all the gear. Then you want to know more. Then you start doing stuff for you own bike. Then you realise you can make money out of this and become a professional mechanic.
Sort of like all sports I suppose.

I don't see what's so wrong with the OP. Thankfully there are plenty of lady riders here in Texas, and since I ride recumbent I have the best view ever, but I'll agree that I've never seen a lady bike wrench. Seen plenty of car mechanics who were female, but never on the bikes.
....Of course, then again, I'm not sure any of the male mechanics I've used know anything about a bike either, except for one.
I don't think it was a troll. Slightly clueless, but not a troll. And nobody has taken the ostensible bait anyway.

I can't understand the OP's motivations...
He seems to enjoy the visual feast of female joggers, yet yearns for them to be on bikes.
I wonder if he's catholic...

Women runners are better looking than women bicyclists. The human body was built for running, not sitting down. You use a lot more muscles when running, which means a lot more toned muscles. So quit complaining and enjoy the view. :D

Serzly...:)
I like the eye candy of fem joggers, but they are killing their knees and
ankle joints...and make me run into trees and things.
I am old now...I come from a time when they still had ashtrays on
bicycles...I am trying to figure things out before I die.

Do It Yourself High Intensity Discharge ...it's a type of light bulb.
Lots of women bikers in Eugene...and on of the best mechanics I've ever used was a woman here at the LBS. Sadly, she moved to the East Coast.....

There is a lack of female bicyclists and I, for one, am trying to improve that - in fact I'm on a subcommittee for my Club to develop more intermediate length and challenging rides to keep the interest of new riders as they get better. And many of our new members are women.

I hope you can sleep now.

I've seen a female mechanic at an LBS. She's about 220 pounds, has very short spikey hair, and smokes copius amounts of cigarettes. If you're ever in Hawaii, I'll tell you how you can find her, but I suspect she isn't interested much in dating men.

Meh, I started two women off on cycling this year (by making bikes available to them). One is my gf and another is her friend. Now, those two are encouraging ME to ride more. :)
Now THAT's motivation. Sorry, just had to brag :)

I nearly hit the kerb on Sunday evening because of a beautiful girl I saw waiting at a bus stop... skirt like a belt and the looks of a model...

Are we to believe that women don't get all "jiggling and bouncing...boing, boing, floppsy, jiggely, bouncy, bouncy," when they run? That's like saying that the sun rising in the east and setting in the west is politically incorrect as well...

Maybe you are confusing correct with politically correct? The climate of hyper sensitivity amongst the women has been pretty strong from time to time in these forums. Most of the storms left with Koffee but ya know...
That's all I'm sayin'.

Seems I have not seen really young oriented women racers. I see more women riders who appear to either be commuting or maybe the recreational clubs. Recreational ride clubs, I'd guess I've sensed, maybe 20% of their members are women. That's my guesstimates.

That's all I'm sayin'.Yeah, I get it. I thought this whole PC thing had blown over and died down. Heck, when I was in school, they had these suggestions for dating like asking for permission to kiss a chic or to touch her tits! Gee, you'll know when she's ready and asking for it just kills her mood!
And I'm only going by "correct" terms, forget the PC BS! If you're fat, I'm calling you "fat", none of this "plus-sized" or "gravitationally-challenged" sh|t !!! If you're denial about yourself, then maybe I can help you along with a dose of reality damnit!!! ;)

She had (has?) mod rights. And is well practiced at PC and high dudgeon.

I don't know what it is about where I live, but I notice a huge lack of male runners here. About 90% of the riders are Men, usually 30 something (and older) guys, but hardly any running, especially in tight runners shorts.

bouncy, bouncy and uncontrolled, like Matt Shirvington.
Why do they ride bikes ?? Why don’t they run instead?? I think it would be better than all that squishing and bending on their joints and…other stuff. And I have NEVER EVER EVER seen a male bike mechanic wearing tight pants EVER...what’s up with that???
