Our day of Atonement was yesterday. We fast (no food or liquids) 25 hours, no TV, radio, computers, cars [remember the Yom Kippur war 1973 - one of the reasons we were able to mobilise so quickly was that the roads were completely empty], reflect upon ourselves in the context of everything around us, seek and give forgiveness from and to whomever we did wrong or wrong was done unto us.
Cycling being a form of enjoyment is shunted aside in favor of the more spiritually uplifting reflections we engage during this day of self assessment.
What did I do as soon as the holiest day was over - went right back to the wheels. Funny how we are creatures of comfort and enjoyment.

Go to a monestary. Times of prayer are followed by work, or the craft, or the skill that monk has been assigned to accomplish. Spiritual reflection followed by what one does best, or what one needs to do for the wider community.

I love to have an ice cold shower every morning , so I take a hot one instead ,as atonement every day !
