This might be a [novelty?] product worth looking into...unfortunately, I can't tell because of the awful website.
Whaaaaa??
I can just imagine kids wearing Heelys zipping around on these, and doing faceplants when they hit bumps.
I would cry if I got passed on the road by someone with that rediculous thing.

hahaha, that reminds me of something that happened a year or two ago when i was on a walk with my best friend and her daughter. it was so funny to me for some reason, that i wrote about it in my livejournal.
'then we saw someone ride by on his bike, with a box fan strapped to his back. i pointed at him and said "yuri look!!" and she watched him go by and laughed. then i said "jenne! jenne!" because she wasnt looking? so she looked too. and i said "he's jet-propelled!" and she laughed for a long time.'

I need one of those, a mountain-board (off-road skateboard), a Speedo, and I'm set for Burning Man next year.

I wanna do that on my bike :).
As for the web site, thats f**ked up. You know how hard it would be to stay upright with that fat s**t on your back?

Dang - if that thing could get you to 25mph on flat surfaces, and 20 on uphills, I think it would be a dang good investment at the mpg, no matter how dorky it looks! Hard for me to believe a propeller could be that strong...I'd also hate to wipe out with that thing on my back!

Staying upright isn't the problem. Fighting aerodynamic turbulence at 150mph is the problem.

Dude thats OLD SCHOOL!!! Well no duh the motor will spin itself if its mounted on something that doesnt spin. Lame.
That's the best way I've seen to keep wheel suckers off your back. No one's getting a draft off of that thing.

The website is ridiculous. I can't even figure out what the product is. Can anyone describe it?

Whoever is in charge of that website: Stop using FrontPage templates or whatever you're using. Fix the layout. Remove the unused pages. Don't make the home page so wide.

Gah, that's a horrible website. Not the worst ever, that prize goes to flash-only sites.
Generating thrust by pushing on the air is NOT efficient. You only do it if you're going airborne and won't have anything solid to push against. If you're going to have a motor, the most efficient use to put it to is to put power to the wheels.
I bet the only reason this thing works at all is the person is still pedalling.
If anyone goes for this, it'd be interesting after they got used to riding to work or whatever, to take the thing off their back and see if they realize that it wasn't actually helping them at all.

we should start a pool and buy one of those, im sure it has some fun applications. none of which probably apply to bikes.

Pretty hilarious!
Uh....the key benefits are: ......a little graphic dohickey?
There's no mention of the weight that I can see. Probably at least 10 lbs. Sticking a foot and a half off of your back.
Why not just pick up one of these used?

I submitted that site to weppagesthatsuck.com. I'll be looking for it there in the coming days.
My question is, what happens when you hit the brakes to avoid the car that suddenly pulls out in front of you???

Has anyone ever used a gas powered leaf blower? They vibrate the hell out of your entire torso and leave you with this horrible feeling after extended use. Not to mention that any time you strap an engine to yourself it is bound to be noisy, and stinky. I for one am just going to use some wire ties to secure an F-14 motor to the eyelets on a surly crosscheck.
