Great Lakes - 50-60 mile ride in WI?

i'm looking to do a 50-60 mile ride in WI this weekend. any suggestions?

i'd like a smooth road, nice views and some hills.

i'm in chicago, so somewhere in the south would be good. maybe as far as elkhart lake or madison but no further.

Check out the website above. It's a little general store / deli / bike shop in La Grange on US-12 about 12 miles north of Elkhorn. They have some great roads up there and the website has many routes mapped out and available to download.

Backyard Bikes is a hub of mountain and road cycling activity in that area. They have an adjacent parking lot where you can leave your vehicle. Oh yeah, when you are done riding, you can go in the shop for something tasty to reward your ride.

Why go to WI?? It's got all sorts of vivid colors that can distract you, smooth pavement that could allow you to fall asleep, and real hills that could give you a nose bleed. I say play it safe and stick around our home...besides...I hear they're all drunks that eat a lot of cheese....

If you really think you want some challenging hills, head just west of Madison to the Blue Mounds area. There are some leg-sapping steep hills in that area. Check out the route maps for two of that area's challenge rides... www.horriblyhilly.com and www.dairylanddare.com. They have downloadable maps of area roads. Beautiful area to ride. Great roads, little traffic, and incredible scenery.

50 miles Whitewater Lake.
51 miles Tri County Tour.
60 miles Grand Tour.

50 miles....Whitewater Lake route.
I have done that one several times....that one and the slightly shorter version of that one....which is about 35 miles.

You can't go wrong with the scenery and there are plenty of hills to work for you too.
My weekend house is just six miles down the road from that place, so I know it well.

Tell the owner Mike in the back (shop) that I sent ya in....great guy.
Oh...tell him "phil" the radio guy with the Klein Reve X....he remembers people by bikes they own I think!

This site has some nice routes. The Barrington to Lake Geneva has a few hills and is a very nice ride.

Now, now...if you re-read it I ws clearly dissing Illinois....

The Waterville plus Nature route isn't too bad either. Highway 67 is busy, but its used frequently enough by cyclists that the drivers are usually good.

There are some routes on this website also in case you do not want to go all the way into the Cheddar curtain.
