General Cycling Discussion - Rudy Project Kerosenes

I am going to go out and purchase a new pair of glasses from the only Rudy Dealer in Toronto. Are the Kerosene's a good model for cycling and just general sunglass wear. How are they when it comes to wint coming through the sides. Are there any recommendations on other glasses in this price range?

I'll sell you a pair of kerosenes with white frames for $50 USD.:D

I've been very happy with my Kerosenes. They offer plenty of sidewind protection for me and was my primary reason for getting them since I wear contacts for road riding. The lens coverage is good but I have a smaller face... YMMV. I prefer the older lens style to the newer more rounded ones though. The vent control feature works pretty well unless you're wearing them with the Rx inserts... nothing seems to prevent fogging in that case. Adjustable nosepads really work to fit them to my face which was the major thing lacking from my other possible choice (Oakley M-frames). The temples are fully adjustable too and hold pretty well even for offroad riding. I haven't had any problems with them sliding around on my face. They don't interfere with helmet straps either. Swapping the lens is a bit difficult at first until you get the hang of it. It feels like you're going to break it. There are many choices of lens and frame colours. The lenses themselves can be kinda pricey ($50-$60) depending on which you get. I have smoke grey and clear ones (for riding in dark conditions). I've considered getting the yellow and blue too.

I love them, only problem i have had is air bubbles in the lense. I left mine in my truck last July, temp outside was low 100's, in the truck, 140 i would guess. For some reason, the lense did not like extreme heat :)

I love mine. :love: I bought 'em last year with the regular gray lenses and the yellow ones. Originally, I got the polarized gray lenses, but found that those aren't truly polarized like my 'everyday' sunglasses. I took 'em back to the lbs and got regular gray instead. Those work just fine. The yellow lenses are great for cloudy days or early evening rides. I would agree that removing/replacing the lenses is a bit awkward at first, until you get more comfortable with how they fit into the frame.

I also have a smaller face and the adjustablilty of these frames (temples & nose-pads) is perfect for me. The vents are a nice alternative, too. :)

i bought my rudy tayos.. perfect for me.. and two extra sets of lenses at Europe Bound.. on front st.
p.s i bought them because of the fit(small noggin) and the vents in the lenses... as i tend to steam them up a bit..:D

I had a pair of RPJ's (heck if I l know what the J stood for, but that's what they were called) that I ordered from Performance about three years ago. Loved em, they fit great and held up to lots of abuse from flying debris and sweat, but in about a year's time the frame failed in the exact location where they flexed every time you removed the lenses for cleaning. The first time this happened I sent them back and got a replacement with no hassle. It happened again after only a year and I again got a replacement (and sent a comment to the company). Well, needless to say after the third breakage I switched to Bolle's and so far things are ok.
Could have been just that model I guess.
