I was not involved in cycling "back in the day" when this was a regular thing, but have read and heard many accounts of heroic efforts. I may try a few of them. Check it out: http://www.lowkey.djconnel.com/

why 'low-key'...? they seem fairly intense, both routes and about the competition... but perhaps it's all relative.

Going out on a limb here and guessing the name is an attempt at irony. Or not (there are no prizes, it's not sanctioned, etc.).

I've signed up for the yahoo group - I'm definately in for the ones close to home (Montebello, OLH, Bohlman (eep)).

When's the montebello 10k this year?

I'll likely I'll have to miss some, but will try to get in to all that I possibly can. Should be amusing :D

See the Montebello 10K thread (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=225590) for updated info on that event.

Yeah! I'm not riding it, but I may head over there with my daughter and check out the scene.

I'll be there riding on my Soloist - say hi! :)

I guess our group will roll by around 9:45am or so. I'll make sure to wave and say "Hi!" as we pass along on Stevens Canyon.

Well, I just got back from the climb. It was a lot of fun, but cold as heck. I didn't really notice the B ride Steve but there was about 5 different groups that rolled by while we were milling about in the parking lot.

Have fun out there! I'll be out of town Saturday so I will miss this one too. But I will be back on Sunday for the Montebello 10K! Unfortunately I won't be riding it, though, because of patellar tendinitis. But I will be out there cheering on whoever shows up for it!

I'm hoping the tendinitis clears up soon so I can get in on at least some of these LKHCs.

Some good video of the Week 4, Highway 9 climb at http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=399755131952294886&hl=en

nice video, although the audio is a bit repetitive.

I'll be out there again this weekend for Bohlman. oy.

Yeah, I turned the sound down after 2 or 3 repeats :-)

I'm still out on the injured list...tendinitis caused by chondromalacia. I probably will not be riding, and forget climbing, for a while :(

If it doesn't rain Saturday, and if I get up early enough, I'll be there for Bohlman. It'll probably take close to two and half hours to ride to the start. I'm guessing I'll do the climb in about 45-50 minutes.

Well, I did Page Mill. It would be the second time ever that I climbed Page Mill. Since it was about a 50 mile ride to the start, I was on the bike at around 6, when it was still dark out. I think I did the climb in 50-52 minutes. I'll find out when the results are posted. Lots of people passed me, especially near the top.
