I agree, its sad to see these animals on the streets. I'm glad our cats are fixed. There is even an epidemic of the HIV equivalent going around in a lot of the stray cats around where we live. I don't want to let our cats out anymore in case they get into a fight with one of them.

WTF does anyone else see my post as #1?

Yes I'm serious.
If it is a "he," getting him neutered will reduce the amount of testosterone, thereby reducing unwanted secondary sexual characteristics, like fighting, fence-jumping, overt dominance behaviour and running away, among others. Also, there won't be a whole ton of puppies nobody wants. There are a lot more dogs than homes, so it's really showing compassion for the animal(s), and it doesn't affect their quality of life at all.
My own dog is a wonderful black mutt, which are pretty much a dime-a-dozen running around on the streets. He and I have a wordless rapport that constantly enriches my life-but it makes me sad to see so many of his brethren I don't have room for starving and injured on the streets, or going crazy then being euthanized in shelters.

I have always had a rapport with animals since I was a little kid, and the older I get, the more I like them better than humans, but here's the deal-I have recently seen way too many stray dogs and cats running around that would make somebody a wonderful pet, but, even if they went to the pound, may never get that chance. So, unless you plan on breeding your purebred pup, please get them fixed, for everyone's, (especially their,) sake.
LOL this is funny because my kitten was neuterd today.

Here, here!!
My pups were neutered when I got them, but I'm all for spay and neuter of all pets to keep them from over populating and ended up being "destroyed".

I have volunteered at animal shelters for years, and see first-hand the result of irresponsible pet ownership.
Please spay/neuter your pets.

Please. If you don't get it (home-based pet breeders), then consider neutering yourself.
Our pup is slated to be de-nutted in the near future. He is 6 months old and rackin up vet bills like a mutha.
Mine are already done. "Half the man they use to be" Poor guys. My dog wants to know what its like soooo bad that he gets his groove on with a stuff doggie that looks just like him. :)
it is heartbreaking to see all the unwanted animals in shelters. I agree, spaying and neutering is a necessity.

I worked at a Humane Society for a while and am only hoping I forget what I
saw there.....
Please....Spay, Neuter and when looking for a pet consider an old mutt or alleycat
before a purebred / breeder pet if you are really the benevolent type.....

Point taken, but at times I wonder. Breeders are out there breeding for the pure bred market. Often ill tempered dogs that end up with major medical problems as they age. Mutts on the other hand often seem to have a much better temperment and far fewer problems. I can't really disagree with you, but again at time I think the best of the mutts we should breed and all the pure breds that should get neutered.

This was my reply to Dead Extra that got misplaced due to the database error. Domesticated animals enrich our lives in many ways, we have a duty to make their lives as fulfilling as we'd like ours to be. I am much more "intelligent" than my dog, but yet he wakes up every morning happy to face the day, exhilerated to take a pee and greet his humans, and smell all the scent trails in the yard-so who's the dummy in this relationship, seeing as how many times I am grumpy in the mornings?

In this household, boy cat, girl cat and bf are "fixed." I am the only fertile one.
When bf got "fixed" and made the hefty payment, he remarked that it "only cost $35 when he had the cat fixed...."

In my county if you adopt a pet from the shelter, they will not let you take him/her home until after the surgery. The adoptee fee includes the procedure. If the adoptee has already had the surgery, you make them home right away! :)
But of course that doesn't account for the ones you find...

WTF does anyone else see my post as #1?
Ha Ha ... You're #1 You're #1 You're #1...
I live on a farm with 65 acre of land around it, in an old farm house. The house was infested with mice at one point. We got two sister cats from a litter several years ago. The last mouse I saw was being devoured. Don't get me wrong mice are truly cute animals but man are they destructive. I figured these cats were tools but since then they have become incredible pets and good friends indeed. We never let them out side since our house, even with all the land, is right up against a 45 MPH(which really means 60MPH) road and there is a daily slew of road kill, ever sceen 'Pet Cemetary'? Well it's just like that.
Anyway the cats are happy doing what cats do.
