I see Bluemels' version all the time on eBay. I have a pair on my Gitane and like them a lot for what they are.

I saw an old Fuji with a set of Blumels cut down to "shorty" size. You could always get a new set of Esge or Zefal fenders & make some, if your heart is really set on that.

I've been meaning to ask this, but I've never gotten around to it: Do shorties really DO anything?
I find them considerably disgusting (just my opinion), and wonder just what benifits such a fender provides - as I cannot imagine anyone wishing to mount anything that looks like that unless it serves a reasonable purpose.
Take care,

Kurt, good point. They're no substitute for full fenders. The ones I use do keep road spray from my headset, keep me from getting a stripe up my back and protect the underside of my Brooks to some degree, but the bike frame still ends up filthy.
If it's really wet, I take my dedicated rain bike instead.

I got a set of SKS commuter fenders a while ago, mounted 'em, was really happy with myself, went out on my first ride after, it rained, I was feeling great about myself, especially watching my friend cursing as we rode, then there were a couple of "clangs" and "claps" and I looked down to realize that half the mounting hardware had been banged off by my pedaling feet. So full-length fenders seem to be of the disposable type nowadays, what with the minimal pedal-front wheel clearance. While we're on this topic, anyone know if it's possible to get such things as the little plastic end tips for the mounts, along with extra bolts (that is, without purchasing a whole new set of fenders)?
My point: seems that maybe with some bikes, full-length fenders really just won't get out of the way.

Yes, talk to your LBS. I suspect Harris Cyclery sells just parts, too.

That goes for fenders made 50 years ago too (just ask me while riding my Bluemels-outfitted '61 Paramount), although if assembled right, they shouldn't come apart.

I've never been aware of a situation where shorty fenders did anything. You'd really only use them to get that "sports bike" look that people had when they didn't want fenders, in the 70's and 80's. For some reason the 50's Holland tourer I'm sending to USAZorro has a set!
