Mountain Biking - BEER.. you know you want to look

Hey...this is for the past few posts....

Noticing that us shop mechanincs, well pretty much all of us mountain bikers too like our beer. Especially the good stuff, no cheap BUD or anything like that. So I figured hey, why not start a post on what kinda beer everyone likes and maybe we can all find some new micro brews in our area and give em a shot, and let everyone know how they are. And just maybe find something in everyones area so we all can have comments on it. It's a long shot..but hey

So anyways guys and gals post what you drink and what's a good brew! I want to get some new flavors and check em out!

My favorites? Yuengling Black and Tan, and Rolling Rock are deffinitely two of my favorites. Nothing quite like a beer after a hard ride.

I love Fat Tire and the Hefeweizen from Phantom Canyon here in the Springs...but I usually drink Bud Light or Michelob Ultra at home to keep the calories down.

I still prefer the stouts and porters...but I've started to find some "less dark", yet still tasty brews:

**** Fat Tire! (http://www.newbelgium.com/beer_fattire.shtml) Fat Tire - as in Fat Tire bikes...from The New Belgium Brewing Company in Ft. Collins, Colorado.

I love Big Rock beer! Warthog and Traditional are my faves.

Also good is Great Western, they make a great Honey Ale and their Pilsners are the best in the business.

Well...I am cheap then...here is my list (I warn you I prefer LIQOUR so my beer list is cheap)

1 - Kokannee (The beer out here)
2 - Sleemans Honey Brown (home town beer yummy)
3 - Alexander keiths
4 - Bud (I played football and developed the taste. I only drink it from Sept - Jan ;))
5 - guiness (I can stomach it when the need for a meal is required)

Otherwise show me the Rye :D

Guinness is my favorite by far. A good black and tan made with Guinness and Bass Ale never gets old. I also like Blue Moon.

Favorite as far as taste is Either Corona or Chili beer. But i haven't been able to find chili beer here for about 5 years, and after that long i can't remember how it tastes, only that i used to think it was the ultimate beer. And i'm tempted to say it's my fav, but i'd have to taste it again. So for now i'll have to say corona. But for those of you who can find it, try chili beer. It has an actual jalepenio pepper in it and it's friggin delicious. Not good if you're gonna drink more than 2 or 3 tho because it's very rich and filling. Made in Cave Creek Arizona, but distribution is scetchy. Used to buy it all the time till the california distributor changed and no longer distributes it in my area.

The one i drink most tho is miller lite.......taste is only a little better than tolerable, but as with food i tend to ingest very fast, and corna would have me laid out flat in no time.

We are leaving out Labatt Blue, best thing North of the Border. Molsen Import Ale is good too. One more for them Micro Brews Saranac Lager.

I am from north of the border...most of us don't like Blue...you can have it along with Canadian ... :D

Usually I just lurk, but since I like the subject, Fat Tire is my "go-to" beer. I also like a good Hefeweizen.

In college we went through a stage where Keystone Light was an acceptable beverage! What were we thinking?

We have a small liquor store just south of my house that has Imports and Micro-brews from everywhere.

Just recently I had a Belgium beer that came in a cream colored bottle. It was delicious, but it was $3.50 a bottle! Can't remember the name!

Now, when I'm at the grocery store, I'll try whatever micro-brew is new or I haven't tried yet. I really like the Tire Biter Ale's from Mad Dog Brewery. Fat Tire is good. I even like Heinekin. I'm not choosy, I like them all. A good Black and Tan is a necessity when out at the pub!

getting very thirsty reading this post-- luckily, friday happy hour at work is in a few hours. they stock the fridge with many of the aforementioned brews of delight. looks like i'll be riding home a little tipsy today.....

also thought of a few more. Arogant Bastard Ale (yummy and 7.2% alcohol), and Turbodog made by Abita

My favorite well known beers:

St. Pauli Girl dark. Much more smooth without the nasty aftertaste or fattening feeling like alot of dark beers.

Corona. It's funny, because Corona isn't all that great of a beer, especially in the sun. They save money from the clear bottles, but sunlight gets through, and since they use natural hops instead of a hops compound like Miller, it creates free radicals that are the same compound as what's in skunk's glands at only a few parts per trillion, but it's noticable. The lime simply kills that taste and smell.

Warsteiner. Because life is too short to drink cheap beer. 'Nuff said. I don't like their dark near as much as St. Pauli girl though. We get this stuff in mini-kegs down here, so when I want to drink for a day or two straight, this is what I get, and is normally the only time I get it.

Goose Creek Christmas Ale. Lots of holiday spices without the jaw tingling feeling of other spiced up ales.

Bass. On draft of course. I love amber beer, but Killians often tastes like syrup around here. Bass does the trick quite nicely.

Coors Light. Yes, I still live in Redneckville KY, and all of us have to have a cheap beer of choice, so we can have a recreational drug to keep us occupied and interested while doing mundane things, like mowing the yard, cutting down trees, and fixing cars. Coors tastes fresh, yet isn't as carbonated as other cheaper beers, so it avoids that tingling feeling that I hate so much.

King Midas. This is a cross between beer and wine and mead, which is like beer, and is what they drank a long time ago. Some scientists analyzed molecular remains of a drink in King Midas's tomb, and recreated it. It's awesome. It's like $11 a bottle. Mead is also what was used when the term "honeymoon" was coined. When a couple was married back a few centuries ago, the brides father provided all the honey mead that the groom could drink for 30 days, or one moon. This became known as the "honey moon".


As for microbrews:

Big River Brewery in Nashville has this "16th Avenue Ale" that is awesome. I don't even know how to describe it. It looks pretty light, but tastes like it's an amber, then has the aftertaste of a German wheat beer, kind of yeasty with a bite.

Black Horse Brewery in Clarksville Tennessee has a vanilla ale, which is ok by itself, but when you order it as a black and tan mixed with their stout, it's just awesome. The sweet vanilla but stout taste without the coffee bean aftertaste is just awesome.

Rock Bottom Brewery in Indianapolis has a great amber ale called Raccoon Red. They sell a different pint glass for every beer they sell, and this one was so cool that I bought two. It has a picture of a raccoon a curled up and looking at you. They also have a Hoosier Stout that is good and has supposedly won lots of awards.

Corn...you know to much about beers...and the whole light thing with corona...wow...I am impressed...I will stick to my rye and coke but thanx for the schooling ;)...

My CHEAP beer of choice is this crap called wildcats...sooooo cheap is worth the suffering of crappy beer sometimes.

I'm trying to learn. There is so much to learn about beer. My ultimate career goal is to own my own microbrewery. There is a liquor store here in town that has beer tasting on Saturday afternoons. I try to go as much as I can because the guy that hands the beer out really knows his stuff, so I pump him for information. He goes to all these brew festivals in Colorado and has been to a beer school in Germany. He recommends all these interesting beers and offers the story behind them. I always keep one bottle from every different beer that I have, and now I've got enough bottles to cover half of the walls in my living room on shelves. Every time I visit a different microbrewery, I buy a pint glass, and now have two kitchen shelves full of them. I try to keep myself from appearing as a drunk. I've got rules that I try to abide by, like never drink more than 3 beers at a time more than once a week, every day that I drink I skip the next day, normal drinking days I limit myself to only 1 or 2 beers, things like that. I went on vacation last week and drank Corona on the beach every day, so I just took this week off. It's ON tonight though! Heading to Applebees for some Fosters, like... RIGHT NOW! later guys.

Oh yeah, forgot to add my all time favorite, Sam Adams Cherry Wheat, to the above list. Just take my word for it and get some. It's hard to find around here. Only one place carries it, and they're out most of the time.

The only beer I will drink is Bud Light or Coors Light. :beer: All that other stuff is NASTY!!!! Must be like coffee, it's an acquired taste.

Back when I was a young lad living on a beach in the southwest of Mexico I must have drank a truckload of Corona and it came in a brown bottle! Can’t look at Corona now that I am sober, I mean older! :eek:

I'm an avid beer drinker... I like all of the following:
Guinnes extra stout for evening relaxing
Sam Adams triple bock as an occasional therapeutic drink
Any beer made in Montana :) (black star makes a fine drink)
For all day fishing or the once a year just the guys get away from the women weekend... ice cold Keystone Light.. I can literally drink a case a day.. not get ****faced, wake up the next day felling just fine.. and it's cheap :)

Do they even make that stuff anymore? I bought one bottle like 2 years ago because they said it was the only beer that actually got better when it aged. I still have it. The guy I previously mentioned at the local beer shop that knew so much about beer... he says it's the nastiest stuff ever made. yikes... not that it can really go bad but, i don't see it getting better. i've only had one bock before and i don't remember who made it (some microbrew). but i didn't really care for it.

Yeah it's something to do with the way it's brewed in whiskey barrels. Here's what Sam Adam's has to say about it below. They've got updates on how beer made in 1994 tastes, and they're saying to leave the '95 and '97 alone for awhile, so maybe I should just keep that bottle... or just chug it and buy some more.

Unibroue from Quebec recommends that you age their beers for up to 10 years for some of them! I am lucky if I can keep beer in the house for a week! I think I will have to go for a walk to the Liquor Mart today.

As far as I know they still make the triple bock. The bottles I've drank were good... but I'm sure MANY would not think so. It's a hard taste to describe for sure LOL
It was 4 bucks a bottle a few years ago.. comes in a blue bottle. For those of you that think this may be close to some of the bocks you see advertised ESPECIALLY the shiner bock popular in Texas... well, trust me it's not.. the triple bock/regular bock is like comparing everclear to boones berry farm teenage date hope I get some wine. :)
