I recently went riding up at Mammoth Mountain and had a blast riding singletrack and downhill on my brothers old Enduro. Since my only bike is an old rigid frame Diamondback Ascent, I'm interested in getting a full suspension bike that can perform well for both local trail riding and for occasional all-mountain expeditions... I'm still fairly new to mountain biking, and at 6' tall and about 250 lbs, I'm concerned about getting a bike with a good suspension that can deal with my weight and still soak up rough terrain. Since I can't afford BOTH a dedicated "all mountain" bike and a bike for up and down singletrack , I'd like to get one bike that can handle double duty... Does this bike exist? I was figuring on spending between $1000 and $2000. I have looked at the Kona Coiler (my brother has a Stinky Deluxe and loves it) but I'd appreciate some input from the Forum Readers. Thanks for any info or suggestions!

I like the Kona Coiler or the Dawg. I almost bought a Coiler Deluxe last Spring.

Instead, I bought a Specialized Enduro SX Trail. I really enjoy it, but it's more Freeride oriented and a bit heavy for some of my rides. I'd definately recommend a regular Enduro or even the FSR XC.

Another great bike is a Santa Cruz Heckler. You can pick your components depending on your budget and get a great riding yet durable bike. Prices start at $1600 for a complete bike.

I have a Santa Cruz superlight (custom build from frame up) that I built with a rear shock that has a shut off switch. The shut off switch for is on the handlebar. I have a hardtail when I want one and (flip the switch) full suspension the rest of the time. Great ride.
