Hello everyone!

My name is Jen and I currently reside in NorthEast Pennsylvania. I'm completley new to the idea of using a bicycle as my only mode of transportation, but I'm also completley open to the idea. I dislike having a car for many many reasons. I suppose I live in a somewhat bicycle-friendly area, but there are times when I look around and think to myself, "I would certainly be killed with the way some people drive around here."

I'm here looking for information, suggestions, ideas, etc. I don't even know where to begin to look for a bike that will suit me. I'd also like to maybe hear from other cold weather bike commuters - things like proper equipment, apparel, tires, etc., and about different bike materials (I'm not entirely sure what kinds of materials are used in creating certain bikes).

I'm totally open and totally new to everything!! So please, if you have any words of wisdom or just a direction you think I should be going in, do not hesitate to drop me a note or message or anything.

Thanks so much!! I look forward to this new experience!!
Jen :)

I'm basically southeast, PA given that I live right on the border between DE and PA. If you could offer up some of your ideas on what you'd like to do with the bike you are looking for, I can take some guesses at what bikes/equipment might work best for you. I'm an all-weather roadie/commuter/MTB'er (mainly commuter though) so I can offer some varied experience.
