am I a wuss, or is this normal behavior?
caught a cold last Wed, stopped riding for a week as it sapped my energy and respiratory system, now I'm feeling better, and will start riding again Sat.
does everyone just stop riding when they get a sniffle, or is there some other strategy?
fortunately, it wasn't a bad cold, and the first in over a year, so I think the riding maybe has strengthened by immune system?

My general rule is if the cold is above the neck I ride, below the neck I don't. Basically if it affects my breathing I give it a rest.

I got whatever is going around...started in my head, now it's in my chest. I took a couple of days off from riding...but I rode again this morning, even though I am still stuffy and coughing. I think getting out in the air and getting some exercise is better than laying around indoors all drugged up. Of course I didn't push it, just a nice easy pace working up a minimal sweat and heart rate.
Snot rockets and expectoration unless symptoms other than congestion are present.
If you feel run down or congested in the chest, you probably shouldn't ride.
If you feel up to it, riding is fine, though it's probably not a good idea to do those intervals...

I'll ride through just about any cold, but I will ease up on my speed and/or distance. In fact, I often find that a ride makes me feel better, usually less congested.
Maybe it's an avian thing -- I never see other birds not flying just because they're feeling a bit poorly...

<OT, sorry> the birds not flying 'cause they're feeling poorly- the main place you see them is in scat after they are called 'lunch.'
Fly, birds, fly, and quickly!

+1 to simicyclist-- that's a great rule to go by.
I had a cold 2 weeks ago. It started up just as I committed to cycling in the mornings. I didn't want to get out of the habit of waking up and riding so I decided to take it easy but ride despite being all congested. The funny thing is it ended up being the shortest, mildest cold I've had in years. B the time I was five minutes into the ride all the congestion cleared. A few snot rockets later and I was golden. I actually felt the best when I was riding.
I ride with colds even bad ones. Oddly enough, exercise seems to have an antihystamine effect. I feel almost normal towards the end of the ride and feel wretched again after riding.
Now if I have a fever, I don't ride.

Just take it easy and see how you feel. So don't do Everest Challenge when you are recovering from cold. Bad freaken idea!
I find that colds affect my energy and make me feel wiped out, so I don't ride. Also, i usually get colds in the winter anyways so riding isn't an issue... however, I'll stay home from the gym until I feel better.

Well I rode today after 9 days off, just a very slow short ride. But felt good, and rather than wiping me out it invigorated me. :)
Still, I'm glad I took off at least the first week, think I needed the rest at first to get over this.
