Today, I did something I practically never do -- went to McD's for lunch. I've been there before, but not this year (sometimes years can pass between visits). However, I had a hankering for grease so I went.

I assumed I was eating garbage, particularly since I ordered a double quarter pounder with cheese meal. However, I was somewhat disappointed to learn while I was reading my paper placemat that this wasn't entirely the case.

My meal was only 1330 calories, which is noticeably less than I usually eat for lunch (I normally shoot for the 1500-2000 range and would rather be overlimit than underlimit). In addition, the meal was MUCH smaller in terms of weight and size than what I usually like to eat, so I wasn't even full. Having said that, I normally eat whole foods (i.e. veggies, rice, potatoes, meat, etc) so it takes more bulk to get enough calories.

With 60g of fat and 1370g of sodium, it ain't exactly health food, but I wouldn't categorize it as being nearly as bad as people say. I have no plans to return soon because that's not a taste I crave very often and I like my normal chow, but I just thought it was interesting.

There is a lot more to bad vs. good food than the macronutrient profile.

That being said, its now the offseason so I eat Wendy's once a week

The dollar menu is an evil creation

Depends on how much he's riding. Not everyone wants to be the next Rasumussen.

that doesn't sound like an absurd amount of calories for a very active person.

Personaly, I couldn't do it at lunch (I'm a big breakfast and dinner guy), but whatever works for you....gotta fuel the legs

How many miles are you riding? When I was doing 11hours of week of training my daily callorie consumption was 3k to loose weight, 3.5k to keep it.

The calories aren't the issue. (Well, they are for me, but not for a lot of lucky people.) But saturated fat in the cheap meat, and transfats in the fries and mayo, are pretty scary. There is evidence that even one meal like that could trigger a heart attack in somebody who's headed that way. Of course, most of us could handle an occasional fat load like that but WHY? At least get like a plain burger, hold the fake-cheese and the salad dressing and the fries. If I'm gonna eat a suicidal meal I'll make it worthwhile, like a rare steak with onion rings, or pasta with butter and a fantastic imported cheese.
