I'm having success with the one, but none with the other. My mother is the one that wants to ride, the thing holding her back is that I'm working on restoring a 1970 schwinn breeze for her. My father on the other hand I'm still trying to convince. What can I do to get him riding?

I would tell him that there is a bill in the House of Representatives to give a tax brake to any one who goes to work on a bike. I told my former triathlete father, and he sent a letter to our state rep and is going to buy a new bike. Good luck!

How old is your dad?
I would be pleased to correspond with him about biking. I started when I was 58.5 and am now 63.

Maybe he would be interested in a three wheeler? He may be concerned with his balance. Tell him he can get one with a big basket on the back and make trips to The Home Depot and Sam's Clb with it, LOL. My dad would go for that.

How much does a Schwinn Breeze weight, is this a cruiser style? Giving newbie riders heavy bikes is not good.
My ideal bike for a newbie rider would be a lightweight road/touring frame set up with flat bars and Shimano 7speed hub gears. You sound like you have the tech skills to build these up.
Try hiring some bikes to start with and take them along a pleasant trail or rural road, and plan a good meal stop. Some people see bikes as the ideal transportation between retaurants and cafes.

Give the lady what she wants. I think a nice resto-bike shows a lot of caring.
