Foo - Foo Gatherings?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Wouldn't it be an interesting idea to get a Foo get together sometime in the Summer?
We could organize a ride or something? Think about it!

What's it cost and it is a paved route? Mrs Stormcrowe rides a bent, remember!
It sure looks interesting! There isn't much info on the routes, are they out and back loops or would we have to arrange a ferry back to the van with our bikes? What's the support like? I have a couple of other people may be interested as well!

Cost is about 300 bucks a head. That covers breakfast and dinner for 6 days. You stay at schools overnight, and trucks carry your baggage from school to school. You set up tents every night. Pre and post ride shuttle service is available, depending on where you park.
On the road there are Service and Gear (SAG) stops every 15 miles or so. Its a mtb ride, as in it covers a very diverse selection of terrain. Just the same, map books are made and given to every rider, and its not too difficult to detour around some of the nastier trails. On years where the routes allow, some very impressive handicapped riders using handbikes ride with us. It can sometimes be done on a special type of bike, but not always. Last year was a prohibitive route for non off road type bikes, so I would guess that next years ride will be set up to allow the handbikes and probably also mrs stormcrowe, but I'm by no means sure. The guy who would be is Barry. He in charge of the ride. Contact info is available on the link.
Another option you should know about is the 2 day ride. Its only about 30 miles a day, and anybody with any bike could handle it.

About an actual foo get together, I've said it before, northern California would be the place for that. Its probably the nicest place in the country for a ride. Bicycles are everywhere, cars respect them, and there is good weather year round. Plus the scenery can't be beat.

Can we do it somewhere like Fiji, or some other tropical island. (during winter of course).

I second KT's idea...I can handle one couple's worth of overflow traffic. Just have to rearrange things a bit to fit the air mattress in the living room.
I don't have any pets to keep people occupied though, just my delightfully odd remote control, and my massive CD/DVD collection.
woiuldn't the right wingers want to goose step rather than ride and the left wingers would prefer a protest march rather than riding.

oh brother...LOL
Tom you oughta get into riding Steuben and Lagrange county. A hidden treasure..beautiful scenery and cars are rare and friendly believe it or not. I think you have done a little up here? also dekalb co including Story lake, Stroh, Turkey lake area. I do 50's-70's all the time.
Maybe Steve/giantcfr1 and I can meet in Korea at the same time as all you Foosters meet somewhere else. That way we won't feel so left out... :D

One of the few things that can ruin any gathering or ride is some ****ing child deciding to preach politics on a gathering or ride. I've only seen it happen once, although I've only been on maybe 10-12 group rides total.

Heh, all I remember of Stroh Indiana was that little pool hall/store.
Yep, it's a drop dead gorgeous area for cycling. I think the driver friendliness has something to do with it being a less populated area compared to many regions of the US.
I grew up in Fremont as a kid, then graduated out of Fort Wayne, so I know that area pretty well :)
.....someday I really should go up there again, and bring the Talus...I'd love to trail ride Pokagon State Park, if they still allow bikes on the trails.

FXJohn, soon as I get up north again, we'll hook up! I'll be riding up that way come spring! Another ride I have planned is to run the Charlie Meyer route from Ft Wayne to Evansville! 365 miles of great riding!
Redden, I think one thing we'd have to do is set a rule for no politics or religion discussed on the ride, instead, we'll all be worshiping at the "Church of the Eternal Crankturn"!http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/mittelgrosse/medium-smiley-095.gif

Can you speak Korean? I can piont. :)

Actually no.
Just the news here. We live with the threat of a missile lobbing on us. In fact it's on TV now again.
They wouldn't fire one at Kyoto would they?
South Korea would be great. We can pick up loads of fake sh1t. d(^_*)
I guess that makes sense. If you want to be safe from missiles, you should come to China! Lots of fake stuff here too :D And I just discovered a great new bike shop behind the North Korean embassy (seriously).

Yes you are definitely in the safer country.
Does the bike shop sell Conandales, Traks and Colonagos?

I also saw a bunch the other day called "Colgane" or something like that, in a suspiciously familiar typeface... But the place behind the North Korean embassy is for real! They have a celeste Bianchi in the window...

Why wouldn't you be able to come. There is awesome road/mountain biking in Moab. :)
I'm poor and can't afford to drive to utah. Otherwise it'd be awesome.

How about regional gatherings on a given date/weekend?
I know there are at least a big handful of us here in the northeast, as well.

Indeed. Why choose just one location? Multilple places, multiple gatherings...it is a big country.
here's some info on Moab:

I wouldn't want to overly burden peoples' wallet, though, so input or other ideas, of course, are cool.
I'd also rock a norcal gathering. If we set the date ahead of time, I'd see you suckas there :)

If we're gonna do this on simultaneous dates, we should probably be planning ahead for next year. All the girly men in this area have already put their bikes up for the winter.
