Triathlon - Requesting help with aero-position

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm installing Profile's clip on Jammer GT shorty bars on my road bike so I can train for a Sprint Tri. The main use of this bike is still as a roadie, so I went with the shorty bars so as not to continually play with the seat position. Is there some standard or guide I could use to find out what is the proper aero position with these bars. They seem to be adjustable in a thousand different ways, so I'm not really sure where to start. Arms bent at right angles? Any help would be great. Thanks!
Think of making your body the smallest thing to punch through the air. Your arms/elbows should be lined up with your knees/thighs to make things stream-lined. That is all I can think of if you are not moving seat position around. I'm sure other people have their ideas and better conceptualization for you. Good luck.

I don't know if this'll help or not, but you might consider taking it over to your LBS and see if they'll help out--maybe even free or real cheap. My shop spent a good hour or more fitting me for a roadie that I'm using for tris as well, and (since they're one of only a few triathlon-oriented shops in town) they helped me find a healthy middle choice and showed me how to adjust things around before each type of race.
Someday I'll memorize all the details and tips to be found on this site. Until then, my LBS knows what's up. ;)
Good luck!
