With spring looking like it is here in the Upper Midwest of North America, I was planning on giving the boot to my Mercury Bob Cat. It decided to take itself out this evening.

I will be commuting by bike from now until I can either find leaf springs for the coffin or another car I can purchase for fifty bucks. It was fun while it lasted, but I do miss the ride.

It's Love-Hate.

(I hate "must have's!" )

May it rust in pieces

Some time before I bought it, my steel coffin underwent a process commonly known as S.M.E.F

Spontaneous Massive Existence Failure.

Actually, going without a car (or a second car, in some cases) in the U.S. is an ongoing battle...perhaps it should be called a "war."
There is always a fresh challenge awaiting.

I am now enjoying my second month of carfreeness. We sold our second car in Feb and since things could not have been easier.

Just after we sold the second car, we wanted to get some significant machanical work done on the remaining car. Also, we need to drive 100 miles to see a medical specialist. So, I rode my bike by the local car rental on the way home and hired a nice new Saturn. We used it to drop off our car at the repair place and then drove the Saturn to our medical appointment.

It cost us $50 and saved us any inconvienience. Plus, we got to do our "road trip" in a brand new vehicle.

Revisiting this topic, because I wanted some idea when I actually went carless. I've been looking at my mileage from last year and see April was a heavy miled month, I know I did two centuries in last year, and a lot of commuting, and just fun riding. I know I had one more car last year that finally crapped out on the way to work, I just don't recall when that was.
I want to celebrate that annaversary in some recognition of the fact that it's been a year since my last car died. It hasnt' been quite a year yet, but closing in on it, and I'm rather elated! I'm looking forward to some great times getting to and from work and spending time outside with the bike. Hope y'all join me in my celebration when it comes.

WOW that's really cool! i gave my mother my car last year and up until i came home was quite happy w/o it. been home a few and i've been using it cause francis (my DF bike) is not w/ me this trip. (i bought sheila (greanspeed GTC) for a world tour and am waiting for that to start later this month so she's packed in my suitcases waiting to go.)

until i leave for vegas i'm using the deathtrap. i'll be glad to hand the keys back over to mom. i feel so fat sitting behind the wheel of a 1000 lb car. just has not been good for my backside this winter. *sigh*

but again congrats. hope to be in the state of bliss you rin again soon.

cheers
kat

Does this mean a party? I just love parties. Name the time and the pizza joint! Actually, this would be an excelent excuse to have a gathering. I've about had it with the Pikachu and Meowth "birthday" parties that I have with the kids. How about Luce or Bryant Lake Bowl? They are both open late on weekends, so I could always make it eventually, working or not working.

I would love to join the party in celebration of the death of the car!

yeah! cars suck! they always fall apart and them some fat drunkard comes out saying blah blah blah this is gonna cost $1500 to fix even though i won't actually fix it! damn the car... until i'm rich at least. then a car could be useful during certain situations. (moving large things etc.)
