Fifty Plus (50+) - One happy little boy!

Tonight, Seafoam and I went to a street party celebrating the various endurance events held in our town. They bill themselves as one of the endurance capitals of the world due to various long distance events that are held here including the recently concluded Auburn Century. While we were at the street party we bought several raffle tickets for a Felt BMX bike that was going to be given away. In addition to us there was a little boy there who had a handful of tickets and was truly hoping to win the bike. They start calling out the numbers and we win the bike! After going up and claiming the prize, Seafoam suggested that we give the bike to the little boy. You should have seen his face when we gave it to him. You would have thought he had just won the lottery. It was a fun evening.

And people long for the good old days when people were kinder, more moral, more friendly, more giving.... No, I think you two put this myth to rest. What a wonderful example of what is good about the human race today. My hats off to both of you! As the bumper sticker says, "Practice random acts of kindness."

Don't you believe it- Give the kid a couple of years to learn all the tricks and seafoam will be hounding him to start teaching her how to do endo's and Stoppie's. All ready for when she takes up Mountain biking.

I can relate in a couple of ways.

About two years ago I was watching batting practice at Safeco field, and a ball came up near me. I jumped up and grabbed it as it rattled under the seats. It was the first time I had ever gotten a ball at a game, and I have worn my glove to many games in hopes of getting one... I was able to get it because there were so few people in the stands yet. Then I saw the disappointment on the face of a boy as he turned to go back to his seat a few rows behind me, and I gave him the ball. That ball has given me more smiles than it ever would have if I had kept it. Your bike will do the same for you!

Enjoy those moments as you remember the joy you brought to a youngster!

And enjoy Seafoam's generous spirit as well. A few years back I gave a van that we didn't use to a friend's sister, a single mother with three children just getting through a divorce and my now ex-wife was upset because we didn't sell it for the few hundred dollars it was worth. Just the opposite of Seafoam based on what she demonstrated here.

You gave away what you should have given, and now continue to work to keep what you should keep. :D
