Not sure about A-Rod, and I really don't care much about baseball, but Joe Torre doesn't deserve to lose his job. I'm not a Yankees fan, but firing Torre would be a mistake.

Have to wonder if they can get anyone to take his contract. Maybe in exchange for a minor league prospect and a couple of bats.

Get rid of him and make him pay back the money they've wasted on him. He's useless if he can't produce in Oct.

Word is that Torre's gone, to be replaced by Lou Piniella. I'm not so sure that firing Torre is a mistake. The Yankees' brass made a decision that they were bringing in a team of superstars, and screw the chemistry. Torre's World Series winners were all reasonably homegrown teams where the main starpower was provided by guys like Jeter and O'Neill--guys who came up through the Yankees' system or who had been with the team for years and years. The Yankees don't have the firepower or pitching in their farm system to build a homegrown team, and they're saddled with star contracts, besides. In short, they'll have to stay on the road they're on for a while, and managing that sort of team doesn't appear to be Torre's forte.

Let's see... Seattle got rid of him and the next season won 114 games.
The Rangers picked him up and went to the BOTTOM of their division. Dumped him and did well the next year.
Now the Yankees... he couldn't have happened to a better team!

A-Rod made a lot of errors this year, never knew him much of a clutch kinda guy. Yanks have a tough crowd and insanely high expectations every year. Many players just can't deal with such pressure and don't get me started with George S.:D .

Being that I am a lifelong Red Sox fan, I think they should keep him. He gets paid 25.2 million a year, made an AL leading 24 errors, and bats .071 in the playoffs. He sounds like a keeper:D .

You can pick up his contract for the $64 million the yankees have yet to pay him (a bargain!).

The team's starting pitchers are aging, suck, or both for the most part, except for Wang. But in the final analysis, IMO Steinbrenner's mucked around too much buying stars instead of building a team. They traded off most of their best prospects and players (e.g. Soriano) for a bunch of over-paid, and sometimes over the hill 'name' players. It's not Torre's fault.

A-Rod was horrible in the playoffs: true. It just seems the Yankees always need to find a scapegoat for not winning in October. One player does not lose a playoff series.
As far as A-Rod committing 24 errors this year; A-Rod is a shortstop, not a third baseman. He was a damn fine shortstop and would be playing that position for any other team, it just happens that the most overrated player in baseball is playing shortstop for the Yankees.

As far as A-Rod committing 24 errors this year; A-Rod is a shortstop, not a third baseman.Don't make excuses for A-Rod (A-Fraud?). In 2005 he won the AL MVP(instead of David Ortiz) . It was his defense at the hot corner, committing only 12 errors in 162 games - which many believed was Gold Glove-worthy - that pushed him past Ortiz for MVP honors.
