Wow, that reminds me of a story a friend of mine told me years ago. His Dad was in the Navy during World War II and was on a ship in the south pacific. One day they announced over the PA system that the crew could go swimming. Since it was hot, almost all the sailors wanted to. As my friends father was walking out on deck (he was a large man...I can picture him bouncing out to the rail on deck) he noticed several sailors standing by the rail with rifles. He asked one why they were there. The reply was, "To shoot the sharks." He didn't go swimming after all.

I've put my camera on the end of a monopod to get a wide angle close up of a rattlesnake. That guy was pretty stupid.
