Sorry if there's already a thread about this, I didn't have alot of time to look for it. If there is feel free to give me a link if you've got it handy.

This is the first year I've had a choice in tires as before I was tied to a 27" rim. Now I've got a s.s. roadbike that I'm using for my winter commute.
I only have about 1/8 to 3/16 brake clearance and my rims are 700x25 aluminum Champion competitions.
I have Bontrager racelites on them right now which don't seem like they'd cut it plus I'd like to keep them for summer.
I live in chicago and ride until there's too much hardpack and black Ice to ride in traffic safely. I generally avoid riding in fresh snow over 3 inches.

based on that info, does anyone have any recommendations for the best tire to use? a little extra ridging and grip would be nice.

thanks for your help.

Yeah,
something knobby attached to a crappy old Mtn bike that you won't
care about when the salt on the roads turns it into swiss cheese.

HA! apparently the bb code doesn't work on thread titles.

I like Schwalbe Marathons. They come in a variety of widths from 28mm-45mm. One should fit your bike.
Also Panaracer Tserv come in numerous widths and are good commuting tires.
You probably are not going to find anything knobbier in the size you are looking. I've had good luck with the durability and puncture protection with both of these.

Try Continental Contacts. The 28 should fit just fine, since they run narrow. I love mine, year round.

Sorry for tacking on another question, but does anyone use the tires like these: http://www.icebike.org/images/invttread.jpg ?

They are supposed to be really efficient on road because they have an inversed tread, but I am questioning their actual traction...
