If you want to keep your gearing the same, then you can't go any smaller without changing the freewheel. If you don't care about the gearing then you can go as small as you want.

If you switch the chainwheel up front, you have to switch the freewheel in the back, you cant get around it.

The smallest you could get with a freewheel is 36 tooth front, 13 back. Then you have to move into cassettes to run anything smaller.

If you want to run a 13, or 14 tooth freewheel you need a flip flop hub.

Since he already has a 14 tooth I assumed he had a flip flop.

The lowest you can go without changing the freewheel is 39t to still be on the ratios...

But you could get an Odyssey 13t freewheel and a 36t sprocket if you wanted...

And if your not to worried about the ratios or going anywhere when you pedal, then you can get whatever size you want.

Well if you ride mostly parks its not that big of a deal since you can just drop in or go down banks and such to get speed.

But at trails and street spots it could be a problem...

My freind has a 39-11 on his bike, and he loves it, in fact he stole my old 39T sprocket just because he likes it, and he even has a 30t but doenst like it...
