Hello I used one of those velcro pant protectors to prevent pants from coming off. Well the stupid thing itself fell of when I started sprinting anyone know of a better design?

No maintenance, no cleaning, no forgeting ( wrap a few extra around the seat post) and foolproof.

I tried rubber bands in a bind one time... never again. fold the pant cuffs away from your inside leg, and put the velcro on your ankle. I use two of them, one around the ankle, and one slightly above, and they never come off.

You can also wear leg warmers that fit tight against your lower leg.

Did your pants come off as a result of the pant protactor falling of?

I don't see how a velcro strap came off. I just use plain ol' velcro straps from Lowes. They never come off.

Try trouser clips

Ever hear of, or see, a simple device called a........Chain guard??

I use Jog-a-lite leg bands. I've never had one fall off and they're quite reflective as well.

I use those clips, MichaelW. They work great on blue jeans, not so good on synthetic fabrics. I recently covered one with surgical rubber tubing and it's been working ever since.

No luck with the velcro, and I don't think anything is going to work if it's around the calf muscles instead of the ankle. A safety pin on the outside is about as foolproof as anything.


An distant childhood memory warns me that if pants do become caught in the chain with a chain guard, you're going to have to cut them out. Maybe it would work better now.

I usedthe rubber band method except for the stupid things get annoying for me The pants didnt come of but seeing everything I wear is to big for me (thank you cycling and commuting) I don't think the possibility of them getting caught in the chain and being pulled off is remote

Make sure the velcro is to the outside along with the pant cuff. I have a cheap $3 velcro strap from the bike store and it even holds my prosthetic leg in my pants when it falls off.

You could try a collar like for a cat or a small dog. It may look funny but I bet it would hold well.

Great idea, we have them all over the place. I was considering wearing a pair of my poly gym pants when it gets colder, and was wondering what to use. though I am kind of partial to the leg warmer idea. Not the real tight ones, but the fluffy falshdance 1980's kind. I think It would look absolutely rediculous, and give everyone at my office quite a laugh. :)

Over the years I've tried most of the above suggestions, and I've found that nothing works better than tucking my pant cuff into my sock.

In cold and rain I use rain pants which have velcro on the cuff to prevent them from being eaten.

I just hate it when my pants come off during a ride!:)

Roll up lower pant leg. Or use a clothes peg.

My wife must have been a seamstress in her past life. She has modified all of my cycle clothing (which was not cycle specific to begin with) to accomodate for the chainring trying to eat my pants.
She has either changed the tailoring completely on my right leg or installed velcro, very professional looking too.

Those velcro thingies never worked too well for me either. :(
