Sidi shoes work well with speedplays as I believe a lot of shoes should work also.

I've used the stainless steel axle speedplays on my road bike for 3 years now. I use diadora shoes and have had no problems. I think they include adaptors to work with any kind of mounting hole format.
I love mine. If you have knee problems, these are the way to go. I used to get sore knees on centuries and long rides. Not with these.
One of the downfalls of these is the ability to adjust the release force. Otherwise the lolipops work well.
Be careful, some are weight sensitive. I know someone who broke off a pedal because he was too heavy for the pedals he bought!

Are we talking about Speedplay X and Zero pedals or Frogs here? Are we talking about Sidi road shoes or MTB/SPD shoes here?
I have found that the worse possible combination is a Sidi road shoe with the SPD adapter and the Speedplay Frogs which use a SPD-style 2-bolt mounting format. I tried that and ended up with a lot of stack height and a fair bit of flex due to the adapter. I also ended up having to do a lot of trimming of the adapter to enlarge the cleat box for the Frog cleats to work acceptably. And even with that, I lost a lot of the ability to adjust the position of the cleat. It was a good thing the proper position was found within the limits I had to deal with. I eventually switched to Speedplay Zero pedals and the cleats mounted much more cleanly in my Sidi road shoes.
