Post your questions about fixing your bike, and what the hell is wrong with it scenarios here.

(Expat make this a sticky since i went through all the trouble making it for those people that always make 40 threads for the same thing...)

Right. Before it's a sticky, someone other than me, you and your mum need to post in it.

How to I reinstall axle pegs? Do I need an insane socket or am I just missing the basics? You can skip the telling me I'm dumb part...

you put it over the axel, then use a socket with a extension.

FuzzyRyder

Just weld it on!

insane socket
Haven't quite heard of that tool yet...

It sounds much cooler than a "socket extension"...dontcha think?

Use a tire iron from your car if you don't have an extender. They're bigger, but that means you can get more leverage

how do you take pegs off? Mine dont have a place to screw them off and I think it may involve taking off the wheel for my bike.

Because this one thread is better than having 208439234324 threads that all have similar questions poping up every week.

Wow. I feel like being especially annoying today (in case no one hasn't noticed). This is the "question thread" and we do need everyone and their mothers to post... so I am fitting both of these criteria.

I guess I'll use this thread instead of making a new one for what may possibly be a stupid question.
I'm running pegs on the left side so of course I want to get them as tight as possible to keep them from spinning. The problem is, on the rear axle, when I get the nuts tightened there is a lot of resistance in the rear wheel. It most noticable when the bike is upside down and I spin the wheel to make sure it's on straight etc. but it's bad enough to be noticable when riding. When I loosen the axle nuts the problem goes away, but I don't want to have them too loose since I'm running left side pegs.

At first I thought maybe I had too much tension in the chain, so I took the chain off and tightened everything up the same as before, and I still had the same problem. The brakes aren't rubbing either. I've tried using the search function. Either the info isn't there or I'm not using the correct keywords. Is it possible for the nuts to be too tight? btw The bike is a "dk cleveland" and the pegs are "animal lites."

Thanks for using the thread i made, it makes things easier, and you came to the right place.

Anyways, check the bearings in your hub, and the freewheel or cassette, that might be the problem...

FuzzyRyder

The problem is probably your cone nuts are tightening up on your bearings. Loosen your cone nuts like half a turn or so, and then re-tighten your axle nuts.

iam_notsam

I hope it's not the bearings going bad since I've had the bike just over a month, I think.

The cone nut thing sounds like that could be it. I know I'm going to sound dumb here, but.. The cone nuts are the ones to the inside of the dropouts, right next to the hub, is that correct? Also, if I'm looking at the right thing, I should need two wrenches to loosen them, right? I appologize for the ignorance as to what's what on the bike. This is my first time working on it besides tightening the cranks, pedals, headset, axles, and seat post.

iam_notsam

Perfect. The cone nuts were the problem. I guess I was putting enough torque on the axle nuts that it was slowly tightening the cone nut as well. I just clamped a pair of needle nose vise grips on the cone nut to hold it in place and tightened the axle nut back up. Everything is working smooth now, thanks for the help.

Sorry for the excessive use of the word nut/nuts.

I may go back and clean up this thread, since it almost seems worthwhile.
