Hi I am new to this forum so please excuse any mistakes I have just bought a second hand road bike and basicaly the two threaded cups that go on the crank axle that hold the bearings in (sorry dont know the proper name of these) have been screwed in crossthreaded and damaged the bottom bracket of the bike has anybody experienced this if so is there a way to put it right thanks for any help

You may be able to chase the threads with a tap and save the threads. Check with a local LBS.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. I think the best thing to do is take the bike to your LBS and see it the bottom bracket can be salvaged.

Probably not repairable.

The right side cup has a left handed thread. There is a chance that, if the cup wasn't forced all of the way in, that a shop could take the proper tap and chase down the threads.
