I just noticed this at roadbikerider.com

Scroll down to the Solution for Persistent Brake Squeal question. As a "proud" owner of a set of these brakes I will be installing boosters soon. After having tried every conceivable solution I figured the problem was something along these lines, but this obvious solution never occurred to me. DOH!

Of course, after I do how will my riding buddies know I am coming from blocks away? This can be handy if you are running a little late; they hear you coming and wait for you. :D

I have avid 8 canti's, I had the same problem, they sqealed loud no matter what I tried. I even changed my fork. I ended up with a salsa brake arch that did a great job of quieting them to a silence. You are on the right track, good luck.
