Foo - Internet guru's.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

How do I find out iof a site is cancelled or something?
I spent a looonnnnggg time on a forum called ricecop, but now it's down, has been for the last few days. All I get is:
Server not found
Firefox can't find the server at www.ricecopforums.com.
* Check the address for typing errors such as
ww.example.com instead of
www.example.com
* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
Everybody else I talk to on the forum cant get on either. Is there a way one of you could figure out if the domain has been cancelled or something?
Thank you.

It's "gurus" without an apostophe!
Unless you were talking about something owned by an internet guru.

They probably had a bunch of php code corruption on their servers or they may have been migrating to another server!
They had problems updating Apache and it would not reload. It took several days to get another hard drive and install the NOS on it.
Where is mechBgon or King termite heh:D

Although the problem's resolved, there are a few things you can do in the future to troubleshoot connectivity issues to a specific site.
Check with pings and/or traceroutes to the machine. If DNS is messed up then use the IP address. Traceroutes should tell you if there's a routing problem.

You do realize that most folks' eyes glazed over and they started checking the news sites at about this point in your post, don't you? Related to another thread...that is something I learned when babysitting executives and their minions in the corporate ivory tower...if you can't say it in one simple sentence, with no techie jargon, preferably with pretty pictures and graphs, their minds go to the mush state. :D

Being on the consulting side of the business, I install secret switches at all of my clients with two positions: working and broken. The "working" position ensures that I look impressive when onsite, and the "broken" position ensures that they will ask me to come back in the future.
