Picked up an '85 Trek 520 with a barely attached Trek logo head badge--removed it & cleaned up the area on the head tube--what glue or adhesive do you recommend for reattaching it securely? It is not one of the early screw-in Trek badges. Has anyone had this happen before? Thanks!

3M makes some really good double-sided tape. Look for "Scotch Exterior Mounting Tape". I think I got it at Lowes, but any place that has a selection of 3M products should have it. It is thin and very strong.

I had the headbadge fall off one of my bikes, so now my bike weighs a gram or two less. :D

If you want to retain it for value when you resell, put it in a safe place until you're ready to sell. if your sense of beauty prefers the look of the logo, then I agree on the double sided tape, as that seems to be what held my headbadge on from the factory.

I personally prefer a clean head tube, and my bike will probably have little value beyond my having fun with it, so it went in the circular file for me... of course, mine isn't a 520.

The 3M porducts are great. Another option to the tape would be the 3M Plastic Emblem Adhesive. A small dot of it and it'll hold. Just may never come off again.

The emblems on late model cars are applied with double sided foam tape.

3M makes automotive trim adhesive that works great. You can get a tube from your local auto parts store. The best thing about it is it doesn't damage the paint.

FastTak - it comes in a red & white tube. Works great for glueing on tubular tires too.

I just used plain clear silicone on mine and it stayed there for years

Would advise against the tape - too finiky to work with, and too likely to go bad after a while.

I've used 3M Automotive Trim Adhesive with excellent results, and would suggest you use that on your Trek badge.

Take care,
