Nice shots Fixer. I went out there today as well (without camara) and it was windy. Will try to make the ride on Thurs as well as it will rain on Friday.

This is a foggy day in Hidden Valley:

Can't you tell I'm in love with my brown fixie?...:D It happens to be my favorite bike...:)

BTW, the observatory is somewhat open but only to those with special invitations. It is not open to the public yet. The main parking area is still fenced and there are guards at each gate. I took that picture through a chain linked fence....that's as close as anyone uninvited can come close to the observatory.

John, yes I am starting the Baldy ride from Anaheim. Hope you can make it if you're thinking about it!

I've never seen a strap on like that! IS it there cause it looks cool or is there some kind of aerodynamic benefit?:D

Not sure if it's cause I'm getting old and my eyes aren't what they used to be, but is your bike lacking a back brake caliper? I see a front, but no rear. Is there a back at all? If not, is it dangerous not to have one? Am I aksing too many questions?:p

Hey, I saw the Floyd Laser Show at the Plane-arium.

Also...any significance to the chicken? I understand the mural is a tribute, but what's with the chicken?

And...are those Eggbeaters? How'dyoo like 'em?

It's a fixed-gear, so his legs are the back brake.

If he really was the Wheezeheezy, he'd lose the front brake too. :)

I commuted to work a couple of days on my fixie brakeless (17mi one way); it's insanity. After two days I threw a front brake on like dammit. I've since had to tear down my fixie (I needed to sacrifice some of the parts for other projects) but when I put it together I'm even contemplating a rear brake too.

I'm waiting for my CygoLites to come in. If I get them by Wednesday, sure I can meet you for a ride. I'm off Wed & Thurs afternoons & evenings. Otherwise, all I have are a couple of blinkies for now which are only good for streets which are lit up.....:D

Okay, well, just keep me posted! I rode up there last Sat afternoon, and the road up to Mt. Hollywood was actually the nicest I've seen it for a long time (repaved in the worst area). The other side of the mountain has debris for sure, so you will need that light assuming we do the whole loop.

I often wear two. One on the back of my bike and one pinned to the goofy reflector vest I wear. Of course, I'd rather be goofy than dead! :o

I have one, I'm looking to get some more for the up coming night season. Maybe some reflective tape on the seat stays.

how many red blinkies do you wear on the night rides on the road?

Just one single red blinkie in the rear and white blinkie on the bars. You don't want to light your rear up like a Christmas tree in group rides because they usually irritate the hell out of the person following you...:D

jsigone
10-12-06, 01:58 PM
just pin the lights on the person running the rear then LOL

I don't have many of my local rides up on Imageshack, but here's a couple:
This is heading up Modjeska Canyon, one of my favorite local roads, it's a little extra climb that you can do in the middle of Santiago Canyon Rd.
http://img325.imageshack.us/img325/2872/ModjeskaCanyon1.jpg

This from the penultimate switchback going up to the Baldy Ski Lifts, not exactly a local ride, but it does become almost a weekly ride during the summer.

Here's from the Eldo Tuesday Night Crit Series, our local weekly crit from March-Sept. Of course I picked one where I'm leading the break:p

I'll have to get my camera out some more, I used to carry it all the time :)
