I've been running a Wipperman 10X1 stainless steel chain (an extravagance but it came with the build kit) on my Campy 10-speed Chorus bike for several months and it's been very good, showing almost no wear after 2200 miles. I really like the Conex link plus the ability to adjust the initial chain length with a standard chain tool. Now I'm looking to the future and wondering about a replacement when I need it.
Wipperman makes "Campy compatible" 10-speed chains in 6.2 mm width and "Shimano compatible" 10-speed chains in 6.0 mm width. However, Campy themselves recently introduced an ultra-narrow 10-speed chain 5.9 mm in width and claims it improves shifting and more tolerant derailleur adjustment.
So my question is can (or should) I buy a Wipperman Shimano-width chain as a replacement for my current Campy compatible chain? If nothing else, the Shimano-style chains should be easier to find and may improve shifting as Campy claims for its own chains. Thoughts and experience?
